I need some advice regarding copying old videos onto DVD.
I have lived in both the Uk and the US. I have a collection of old home video recordings varying from the old PAL VHS to PAL Hi8, Digital Hi8. I still have the cameras which can play the old Hi8 tapes and I have a multiregional TV so I can still watch all but the old PAL VHS tapes.
I would like to convert all this and put onto DVD. I am a little bewildered by the options and would welcome some advice. I am computer literate so I am considering acquiring the equipment to do this myself although I will ultimately stack this up against the cost of having a professional dump the lot.
Things I think I may need are :
Multiregional VCR (ideally with some direct to PC connection)
Possibly a signal converter
Possibly a special card for my PC
DVD burning software (I have played around with some but always get jerky pictures)
I want to make decent quality DVDs of my old recordings so am not looking to do this on a shoestring.
I would welcome any advice on what equipment / software I should purchase.
Thank you in advance,
Steve
