I Have Finally Lost It...

With a week's 'vacation' (as you mad, republican loving Americans like to call it) time on my hands, I started to skim the DVD sites for news, rare DVDs, stuff like that.

But, I realise that I need counselling. I'm not a particularly big fan of animation or anything, but dammit, they look so collectible!

I have just bought all of this in one place or another over the course of the last hour, and if I wasn't writing this, my head would be hanging in shame.

Flintstones, The - The Complete 1st Season
Jetsons, The - The Complete 1st Season
Wacky Races - The Complete Series
Walt Disney Treasures: Behind the Scenes at the Walt Disney Studio
Walt Disney Treasures: Disneyland USA
Walt Disney Treasures: Mickey Mouse in Living Color, Volume 2
Walt Disney Treasures: Tomorrowland
Walt Disney Treasures: Walt Disney On the Front Lines

And all of this without owning either one of the Hanna Barbara collection before, or any Disney Treasures.

Please chastise me below, so that I know never to take time off of work again!

Why not go for more Hanna Barbera:

Scooby Doo
Johny Quest

Actually, I was thinking of that, but to be honest, I never liked Scooby Doo or Johnny Quest, though I will pick up the 2 Golden Collections (you know, because now I have to) and the rest of the Disney Treasures, just as soon as I can find them at a non-extortionate price (because, well, ditto)

Indeed, I have really REALLY lost it this time.

Whatever you do, don't go to dvdtoons.com and start skimming the review section - I blew over $300.00 one time doing that.

There are worst things to lose it over... the Disney Treasures are great to have. The only problem is you're gonna wish you had collected the first wave when it came out. They're a tad pricey.

Don't forget that Disney Treasures Wave 4 is almost upon us.

Same kinda thing happened to me last year. I was just reading the forums and found a thread on the Treasures discs (wave 2 had already come and gone), and I just had to have them! Within a week, I had all 7 tins.

Worst part is... I want more! Already preordered Top Cat, and the next wave of tins.

I also recommend:

Tom & Jerry Spotlight Collection (Warner)

Popeye The Sailor Man Classic Cartoons: 75th Anniversary Collector's Edition (VCI)

Cartoons That Time Forgot - Volumes 1-3 (Image)

Somewhere in Dreamland (VCI)

Gulliver's Travels (Cartoon Crazys version) (Winstar/Fox Lorber)

And although it's a fairly acquired taste, I recommend the Krazy Kat Kartoon Kollection (1963) (Koch Vision)

Enjoy!

While I grew up watching Disney and WB Looney Toons, I just can't see owning them. Of course, I am not married, nor do I have any children, so having them for just nostalgia reasons isn't worth the money...to me.

The animation that I do buy, however, are the more action oriented toons. And with the late '90s explosion of CGI toons, I have several CG series. Roughnecks, Shadow Raiders, and Beast Wars. I also recently bought that G.I. Joe Valor vs Venom disc. I may break down and buy the '80s G.I. Joe series eventually once I get to a lull in other box set purchases.

I'm just the opposite. I grew up watching all the terrible (in my opinion) action cartoons from the '80s -- G.I. Joe, He-Man, Transformers, etc. -- as well as the classic Warner Bros., Hanna-Barbera and Jay Ward cartoons. But I would never own any of the action cartoons, which in my mind would hold nothing but nostalgia value. The Warner Bros., Jay Ward and, to a lesser extent, Hanna-Barbera cartoons hold much more entertainment value to the adult me.

To each his own, I guess.

Hold your head in shame? Pshaw! I would hold my head high for having such excellent taste as to buy all those sets (which I already own, plus more).

I got the Looney Tunes v2 set yesterday and a friend of mine asked me what I got and I held it up and they looked at me kinda wierd. Sorry, but I think people who can't appreciate great animation are the ones who are strange.

Hey...

I got The Flintstones, Jonny Quest, Jetsons, Rocky & Bullwinkle (both seasons), Simpsons, Futurama, Underdog, Speed Racer (both) and if and when they release George of the Jungle and Marvel Super-Heroes I will get those babies too.

Ashamed...nope not me. Maybe my wife is ashamed that she married a DVD nut...
