Arrested Development Censored!

I got my season 1 set of Arrested Development on Thursday and watched the first disc yesterday and it's excellent.

The extended pilot episode is uncensored, (the swearing is not bleeped) but all the other epsiodes are bleeped which to me is a disappointment, especially in the episode in which Buster gets expressive with his feeling about is mother Lucille.

Still the set is really nice , lots of deleted scenes and commentary but having it censored is a major letdown, it was one of the things I was looking foward to getting on the DVDs.

It's not like the cover-art says "UNCENSORED COLLECTION", so why would you assume it would be?

I think the bleeping is purposeful for humorous effect, not censorship, thus is was kept in for the DVD release.

Did the shows air with bleeping?

Ofcourse.

It wouldn't be "uncensored", just like that is the way Reno 911 was released.

I also think the bleeps are in the episodes for humor purposes. Like Sealab 2021 season one had an episode uncensored as a bonus feature, and you actually find out they weren't saying anything that couldn't have been broadcast, but they put the bleeps in because it was funnier that way.

It doesn't bother me at all. I am glad to have this show on DVD, and if this stops some people from getting it, shame on them.

I can't imagine the scenes when Buster cusses about his mom being funnier without the beeps. To be honest, I'm not sure he could have said anything that made any sense with that many beeps in a row. Well, he would have to work at it at least.

THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH CENSORSHIP!!! GAHHHH!!*

The studio that produced this show decided to put bleeps in the show. Guess what, if an outside source, say the U.S. Government, jumped in and put those bleeps in there. That would be censorship. As it stands now, it's a creative control choice that is done against no one's will.

NOT CENSORSHIP!

The censorship issue has everybody so worked up that nobody's made the obligatory "Bragging Thread" comment.

Yeah, the joke there is based on the fact that all those words will be bleeped. Without the bleeping, there's no joke.

Since all the swearing on the show was done with the advance knowledge that it would be bleeped out, I wouldn't see the point of un-bleeping it; that would be contrary to the way the show was intended to air. Honestly I don't even see the point of taking out the bleeps for the "director's cut" pilot, but as long as the originally-broadcast version is also there, it doesn't matter much.

I'm not sure why you brought it up or what you're trying to say, but one big difference between the two shows was that episodes of 'Reno' aired and then were censored in subsequent airings (at least twice, to my knowledge).

They also took out the hardcore nudity which I clearly recall seeing on Fox.

Probably the same liberal pinko commy bastards who censored out the name of Uma Thurman's character in Kill Bill . . .
