When? When? When Will We Get More 80s Slasher Films?

With the upcoming release of Happy Birthday to Me, I bring this up, when will we see some of the following on DVD?

Final Exam
Splatter University
The Dorm That Dripped Blood (although I think this has been released on DVD under the title Pranks, but I'm not sure)

WHEN!?!?!?!?!?!?

splatter university is on for october via image entertainment.

the dorm that dripped blood was released via an unauthorized bootleg from jef films under the alternate (and in my opinion awful) title: pranks. The transfer is wretched, you are better off tracking down the long out of print media vhs.

mgm has final exam. Hopefully they'll put it out for next years august horror line.

I hear mgm is working on a burning dvd for that line as well. Yay!

these are coming this year:

sleazy slashers:4 movie set 8/24
terror train 9/7
bloody new year 10/5
he knows you're alone 10/5
happy birthday to me 10/26

these are in the works/no date yet:

intruder (aka: night of the intruder) (it's on pal dvd)
terror at tenkiller (I believe this is coming out this year sometime)
ALONE IN THE DARK SE (1982) (Image)
BERSERKER (Anchor Bay)
BLOOD RELATIONS (Digital Disc Enterprises)
THE CHILDREN/LUTHER THE GEEK 2 DISC SE (Troma)
JUST BEFORE DAWN (synapse)
NIGHTMARE (1981) (Program Power) (also available as one of those jef films bootlegs but in a cut form. Avoid!)
PIECES SE (Grindhouse) (available on via a crappy transfer from diamond entertainment)
THE REDEEMER (a.k.a. CLASS REUNION MASSACRE (Program Power)
THE SLAYER (Program Power) (Also on pal dvd)

Here's a list of slashers that I reckon need releasin':

blood song
campus corpse, the
curtains
cutting class
deadly intruder, the
don’t go in the woods
drive-in massacre (it's on pal dvd)
final terror, the
forest, the
girls nite out
hide and go shriek
junior (1985)
mutilator, the (on pal dvd)
night brings charlie, the
night school
night to dismember, a
night warning
open house
pledge night (it's on region 2 dvd)
savage weekend
schizoid
silent scream
slashed dreams
student bodies
the prey
too scared to scream
visiting hours

plus a bunch more I can't think of right now.

Check out this book:

Going to pieces: the rise and fall of the slasher film 1978-1986 (by adam rockoff --- Mcfarland & Company press) Pricey book but very good about this sub-genre.

If you want a full list of whats coming in the world of horror this year, email me.

I do have a vhs copy of the dorm that dripped blood, i found it at a pawn shop two years ago, but would like a DVD version of it.

If Splatter University really is coming out in October it will be thre greatest day ever! I saw that when I was on vacation in Nashville two years ago. I went back a few months later, ready to rent it and steal it (meaning rent it and never return it) because I couldn't find it anymore...but alas it was no longer at that video store, but I did enjoy it. That was when I also saw House on Sorority Row...

I also bought Final Exam on vhs in Nashville too

I haven't heard this. That is great news. That is one of my Slasher VHS tapes I am just waiting to upgrade. Is it up for preorder anywhere?

Also, I just found this release:

Scream Theater Double Feature: Volume 2 - The Last Slumber Party / Terror At Tenkiller 09-28-2004

That one is very cheap so quality is probably crap but I have been wanting The Last Slumber Party for a long time so that will do.

Any now, two more that I want bad:

New Year's Evil
Hospital Massacre

I have the Pranks dvd. How bad is it? I haven't had a chance to watch it yet. From what I recalled the movie was awful. It is Daphne Zuniga's first movie and from what I recall even she was bad in the movie.

According to the mailing I recieved (which had the full color artwork and is the vhs artwork with the cheeleader getting stabbed by a figure lurking behind a shower curtain!)

it's being released by elite who has a deal with image to distribute their stuff.
I checked image's website and it's nowhere to be found.
Since I did get this mailing it's most likely a late addition to their slate and will start popping up on sites for pre-order soon.
At least I hope!

Austin-- Pranks, or The Dorm that dripped blood as I like to think of it, isn't the best slasher, but there are certain elements that in my opinion make it rise above a lot of the others.
Not to mention that great cynical ending!
Zuniga had a tiny part in the film. She was an early

victim

You people are just sick.

I don't get the fascination with slasher/horror films. Are they just campy fun, or what? Does the surround tracks make them any more enjoyable? What's the draw to these type movies. I have always stayed as far away from these type movies as I can.

I'm fairly new to this forum, so maybe someone can enlighten me: is this what is known in the parlance as a "threadcrap"?

Anyway, thanks for the info in this thread, guys (well, except for Mike Lowrey's non-contribution). I am also a big fan of campy 1980's horror flicks, and it is very cool to hear that Pieces, Just Before Dawn and The Burning, which are some of the best examples of this underrated and misunderstood film genre, are all coming soon (thanks for the update, Sunday Morning!). I was actually just on the verge of picking up the crappy Diamond version of Pieces that is currently floating around out there, but after reading this thread, I will be holding out for what should be a much better SE release.

Some other great 1980's horror flicks that I would love to see released (although they are not strictly speaking "slasher" movies) include Xtro, Without Warning, and of course the much beloved Night of the Creeps. Anybody remember these trashy fun classics?

it already has, on PLATNIUM , fullscreen (it was shot open matte anyway), but apperently much brighter and clear than the old Anchor Bay's non anamorphic treatment.

I believe...

don’t go in the woods is coming out next year
final terror, the - Anchor bay used to have this in their coming attraction section, but now is absent

girls nite out I believe a new DVD label is putting it out next year

mutilator, the (on pal dvd) - Troma acquired it

night warning - BU has apperently acquired it

the prey - Anchor bay acquired it, but scrapped it for they couldnt find the negatives (even though it's been reported the uncut version is just more footgae of animals, bugs, nature, etc, so not sure why they just dont release the cut for boredom edition)

In regards to Image's release of Splatter University - I thought I recalled that both a R and unrated cuts of the film were released as such on VHS, the upcoming DVD denotes it as being just an R? What's the story here?
