No word. No word at all. Actually, I believe there are plans to release the Director's Cut on DVD, but nothing's been officially announced yet. In the meantime, it is being released in New York and L.A. on the 23rd. Hopefully it'll come to Dallas quite soon, for I am pumped for it. That's right, pumped.

On the 22nd Richard Kelly (and a possible surprise guest) will be discussing the movie at San Diego Comic Con. There will be an audience Q&A, so I'm sure the subject of a DVD release will be asked.

Kelly said in an interview lately that while the director's cut would be in theatres in the fall, there are NO PLANS to release it on DVD.
It was in either Video Business or Video Store Magazine. I'm sure someone can provide a link.

I sat in on the Donnie Darko Director's Cut panel today.
Richard Kelly was joined by James Duval, Stuart Stone, Beth Grant and producer Sean McKittrick.
Richard said the movie will have a 2-disc release. He said there will be new extras that won't duplicate what is contained on the current release. He also said there will be a new commentary track.
So, good news for DVD fans of the movie.

Awesome. Glad Kelly relented into working on a new DVD release.
I figured he would've if they paid him.
Great news.

This is pure speculation but maybe it'll be out before the end of the year? Since the studio wanted the re-release in the first place (it was Richard's idea to do a DC) they will probably want the DVD out soon also.

I just got the 1-disc a few months ago - I don't regret it. I liked the movie enough to check out the DC in theatres, and then I'll have to decide if I like the new cut enough to buy the DVD.
There's nothing at all wrong with the current disc.

I paid $24.99 at Best Buy for this when it was first out there.. I didn't expect this bigtime cult hype that it got on the internet (I am assuming the dropped DVD price also helped). A little disheartening to see your little engine that could be loved by everyone but it is good that it made it a pretty big success as it deserves. Over time I have lost my first thoughts of greatness I felt for it (mainly because of the ambitious originality), as it has its flaws. I will surely buy the director's cut though since the first DVD had so many worthwhile deleted scenes that added to the story. I told everyone it needs a new cut with most of that footage helping the story and it appears we are getting it.
