And the new Batman might be...

From the Hollywood Reporter, via Superhero Hype:

"Warners and helmer Christopher Nolan are zeroing in on an actor to star in the title role of the studio's next "Batman" installment, which is scheduled to start shooting in February. Sources said that during the next three days, several young actors are expected to test for the role. The list of potential crime fighters includes Jake Gyllenhaal, Christian Bale, Joshua Jackson ("Dawson's Creek"), Cillian Murphy ("28 Days Later"), Henry Cavill ("I Capture the Castle") and Eion Bailey, who stars in the upcoming HBO feature "And Starring Pancho Villa as Himself." Meanwhile, sources say Hugh Dancy, currently shooting the Walt Disney Co.'s "King Arthur," may test if his schedule permits and he is able to shave the beard his "Arthur" character, Galahad, is sporting."

Aint It Cool has some pictures of these fellows as well

Personally i like Bale, although i don't know if he's got the right face to fit under the cowl. Thoughts?

Terrible choices all...

These actors are far too young to play Batman! Why don't they just add Colin Ferrell to the list while they are at it?!

Batman is supposed to be a middle aged and "haunted" crimefighter. I don't know many haunted 20-year-olds. I guess I'll be rooting for the Joker in this one.

Isn't Nolan's supposed to be the young Batman tale? Hence a possible return for the Joker?

The last person I can picture as Batman is Pacey Witter. Christian Bale - maybe.

Christian Bale would be perfect as Batman. Just watch Equilibrium and you'll see my point.

This stuff is all just hype. The only reason these rumors are released by the studios are so people can start talking about the movies. Almost none if it is true. The people that are actaully close to becoming the next Batman will never be confirmed or revealed. Studios leak stuff like this out & people eat this stuff up.

I second Bale. That could be a neat combination.

Christain Bale is the most likely canidate and I still disagree with it. The rest of these actors are extremely young and skinny. Bah!

Not to mention, none of them look like Bruce wayne.

For some reason I would go with bale, as well.

He's got the chops, can be a man of action, and has plenty of female as well as male admirers.

This would be a pretty interesting batman. Brit director and star. Neat.

Bale would be a good choice. I thought he pulled off an admirable performance in "Reign of Fire." But yeah, this is probably all hype.

How did Jake Gyllenhaal and Joshua Jackson end up on this list? At least they're not Ashton Kutchter, but Christian Bale is the only decent one of the bunch and who actually looks like an adult. But I heard he wants to be Bond, so I don't know if he'd want two franchise characters.

Why isn't Macaulay Culkin on the short list?

I really wish Bale gets the role... but David Boreanaz is the best choice.

I disagree, simply because we've had plenty of advanced rumors for big name comic book movies that have been true. All the Superman rumors seem to be true as we've seen comments from those involved like Ratner about the situation. We found out pretty early who was playing Spider-Man too. Anyway... regardless, it's certainly fun to play the guessing game

yeah, its prolly all bs hype... but I think Christian Bale would be a good batman. I dunno what all this "he's to young to play batman" poop is... most of these guys could pass for 30 with the right make up etc... does batman have to be a 40 year old man? Michael Keaton was the best batman to date... and he was FAR from a great physical speciman. I think Bale would be as good as anyone...

I don't think any of them would make a great Batman(I still think Guy Pearce would be great), but out of the choices I'd say either Christian Bale of Eion Bailey. Joshua Jackson? Sorry, but Batman/Bruce Wayne is supposed to be intimidating and I will never see JJ as anyone but Pacey for the rest of his career.
