New Travis album in October!!!!!

NME.com has just reported the news. I have been a big fan of Travis' since their first howeverI am alittle skeptical after hearing some of the songs via a friend who has worked with Fran Healy. Anyways, the first single will be called Reoffender, and the album(which will be titled "12 memories") will be released in October. Some of the song titles include the follwing: Beautiful Occupation, How many Hearts and Peace the **** Out(which seems a little angry of a title to be a travis song).

Cool. One of the best bands out there, along with Coldplay and Muse, that are biting Radiohead and are wishing they were able to make "The Bends".

...or any other number of UK pop bands. God forbid they actually be comparable to something other than Radiohead's former heyday.

I assume the October release is in the UK only?

I read a quote in last month's Q magazine on the new album. Friends of the band describe it as "different", Fran Healy says it sounds "the same".

So I guess it's the same.... but different! Ace!

I was reading somewhere that the band was recently here in the states before heading off this month to attend a few European music festivals, were the US stops to record the album or actual gigs?

also can someone remind me what the recent various artist (UK) album had a new song from Fran was (the song and/or the album) Thanks in advance.

Any update on the release date? Amazon.co.uk lists it as being released on September 22, but Amazon.com doesn't list it at all. I hope the US release isn't pushed back too far.

Looks like it should be out in the US by October 14th

Here are the dates and venues for the very brief North America Tour, which I'm sure are a "bloody long drive" from wherever you live... especially if you life on the west coast.

October 2003
21, 22 - New York, NY - Beacon Theatre
23 - Washington, DC - 9:30 Club
25 - Upper Darby, PA - Tower Theatre
26 - Boston, MA - Orpheum Theatre
28 - Chicago, IL - Riviera Theatre
29 - Detroit, MI - State Theatre
31 - Toronto, Ontario - Hummingbird Centre

So there has been none, and I mean no publicity at all for this release.

I heard the single for the 1st time on Friday.

Best Buy will have the album for 7.99 on tuesday

I actually saw the video on the MTV2 show Subterranean. Haven't heard the single on the radio, and dno't expect to (although Side got decent airplay). I'll be at Best Buy tomorrow for sure.

It's just odd how Coldplay are huge, and travis still just your typical britpop band.

Maybe Fran needs to get his swerve on with Cameron Diaz.

the new is very good - although it's gotten panned at dotmusic I heard it got a good review at entertainment weekly.

I'm checking the band out on Halloween in Toronto - I can't wait. Even though many of their songs sound somewhat downbeat on CD, their live show is very energetic.

I saw the Entertainment Weekly review and it was a B+. It's strange because the review hinted that The Invisible Band wasn't that great an album. Didn't they give The Invisible Band album an A? I'm also wondering why Rolling Stone didn't review this album.

Does anyone know if this will be similar to their first and second album, or if they are trying to head in a new direction? So far I've loved all their albums (even though a few songs are a tad too organic and cheery).

I've heard Love Will Come Through a while ago, and its absolutely brilliant. Is the rest of the album like that at all?

Bought it today, and really haven't had the chance to digest it, yet. I'm having a luke-warm reception to it, only due to the greatness of "The Man Who" and "The Invisible Band". Seems like Fran's a little more depressed than normal.....

Also, I think this CD is missing Nigel Godrich's (Radiohead's Producer) production.

Still, a must-by if you're even a moderate fan. Reoffender is good, and "Beautiful Occupation" is a catchy tune (even if it's anti-war lyrics turn you off).

The new album is very good. I've been listening to it for over a month and just purchased the retail at Best Buy.

The reason Travis aren't as big as Coldplay is because they
tend to darker tones and their biggest album "The Man Who"
is filled with dreary stuff. But that doesn't not make it a great
record.

Still waiting for these guys to tour a little more extensively
in the United States. Have yet to catch them live.

Anyone know the names of the b-sides for the UK single "Re-Offender"?

According to CD Universe:

1. Re-Offender
2. Definition Of Wrong
3. Enemy
4. Sea

FYI, the album opened at #41. Not too horrible, but I get the feeling that with mediocre promotion, it'll slide fairly quickly.

Who cares anymore....I mean they are and always were huge in the UK. They'll continue to make good music.

It's just too bad they couldn't tour a little more in the United States besides just 7 or 8 major cities.

That's my only complaint with them.

TRAVIS is a great fu**ing band!!

Yeah I stopped caring about charts a while ago. But touring is sort of tied to chart success. As long as they tour here, it'll be cool.

I've listened to this about 4 or 5 times now and its good but hasn't fully grabbed me yet. It took a while for the Invisible Band to grab me as well, but I eventually really liked it.

having seen them last Thursday, I have to say even though they highlighted most of the new album (I somehow don't remember them performing "Re-offender", all the songs were great. The band themselves though could have had a little more energy. Fran talked a little bit, but not as much as previous concerts I been to, Dougie was wallpaper, Neil looked haggered and Andy chuncked up and needed a haircut.

The album has been in my CD player for the past 3 days and like it. Much more lively than their last album. And I'm liking the fact that they seemed to branch out more with other instruments (piano)
