Please offer me some advice on the Onkyo TXSR600PKG.

Well, being Father's Day the wife gave me a budget of $500 to spend on an "HT" system. We are probably moving within 2 years so this would suffice for now.

Anyway, from looking at different systems, I'm leaning towards the TXSR600PKG @ shoponkyo.com.

Please give me your thoughts on this system (good or bad).

Thanks.

Well, I don't know about the speakers but I have the sr600 receiver and it rocks . It sounds crystal clear, has more than enough power for me (I live in an apartment but it could easily fill a bigger room), has all the sound options I needed (I don't use the dsps but PLII, DDex, and DTSes are all great) and has plenty of inputs.

The speakers are supposed to be pretty good (from what I've read on other boards), I just don't have any firsthand experience with them.

Yeah, the SR600 is a nice receiver, it also has high enough bandwidth you can use it for HD component switching if you need it. Most receivers in its price range don't have a high enough bandwidth rating.

i have the system with the speakers and i like the way it sounds. The subwoofer puts out a lot of bass too. After you buy everything, you will get onkyo points, then register everything for more points, then pick up a referbished rear centrer for free. Also, this stuff comes in perfect condition and is free shipping. You would swear it was new. You will not beat it for the money.

I'm looking to get the SR600 myself. FYI, CurcuitCity.com is running a sale on it now for $400, with free shipping. Of course, you then miss out on the points that RobTT mentioned.

Rob TT, this is my first time buying @ shoponkyo. How do you figure $310 shipped?

Thanks.

*Edit

Also, is everything "factory reconditioned"?
Would you recommend extended warranty?

I would pass on the extended warranty because everything already comes with a one year factory warranty. If the receiver is going to have a major problem, chances are it will occur while under warranty. "Factory reconditioned" means it has been checked out by the factory and confirmed to operate as a new unit would. Often these are returns or cosmetically damaged units which cannot be sold as new.

$310 shipped is if you sign up for Club Onkyo (free signup). You get 10 points which is good for $10 off, special pricing as a club member and free shipping.
