No. Get the 2 Disk SE or for half the price, get the DVD9 version with DTS. The DVD9 single disk version is the same as the Gift Box without the unnecessary fluff. I just don't think the attractive gift box justified the cost.
Or you can wait and hope the extended version comes out sometime soon.

Well, I got it...and pretty much for show and display. Hasn't arrived yet but am looking forward to it. Didn't spend a whole lot buying it on ebay.

with shipping I paid 29...it arrived and I was disappointed... was dented and scratched...from the shipping of course. Getting a replacement. It isn't anything real special...but it is neat. Do an ebay search for Hero Collector's Edition.

Corky, this is probably legit. I don't know for certain about the boxed set, but the regular edition of Hero is all-region (unless I unknowingly got a bootleg).

Supposedly (I say "supposedly" because I personally haven't seen any hard proof of this from "legitimate" sources, just some message board posts) it's Miramax's fault that the short version exists at all -- apparently they put some money into the movie and had a say in the final cut -- but if a longer cut is ever going to be released I'm not sure why Miramax would hold it up for so long. Obviously they haven't released either cut in the U.S. yet so maybe they're worried about a foreign DVD release cutting into the box office, but given that the theatrical cut has already been released on DVD in so many territories I don't know why they would be so concerned about the longer cut getting released at this point.

Actually it's "Ten Sides Ambush". The literal translation I think is supposed to be "Ambush From Ten Directions". The current english title is going to be "House Of Flying Daggers"

Even if the extended cut of Hero exist, there is no official word on releasing it. In addition, they should have released it while the hype of the movie is still high. I don't want to sound pessimistic but the wait had been too long.
What if Miramax have the final word on which version to be released worldwide and block all other version to be seen?

what i guess is they will wait for a long while before releasing the dierctor's cut. alien has waited almost more than 20 years for its director's cut to be released. haha
