Poll: Sequel Naming

What sequel naming scheme do you prefer? Numbers? Subtitles? Or entirely brand new titles?

Examples
Batman
Batman Returns
Batman Forever
Batman and Robin

Rush Hour
Rush Hour 2

Superman
Superman II
Superman III
Superman IV: (Quest for Peace, but bleh )

Silence of the Lambs
Hannibal
Red Dragon

On that note, Star Wars is a little weird. I always remembered the original trilogy as Star Wars (rather then A New Hope), Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. The new trilogy however, i think more of Episode 1, Episode 2, etc... although i think that can be partly attributed to the terrible titles and the fact that we see many many rumors before a title is announced so the movies are referred to by Episode #.

I like it when sequels have different names from the original.

They should make a law that says every sequel title should end in "...2: Electric Buglaoo".

When you can't think of something clever, you can always add an "X."

This is all I really care about.

As for the title it really depends on the movie. SoTL II? um...no. MiB II yes. but the entire suckiness of the movie supercedes any titleing creativeness.

Most of the studios are good at naming their sequels:

X2
Star Trek I, II, III, IV, V, and VI with subtitles then the switch to just subtitles.
Terminator 2: Judgement Day

Exceptions:
Analyze That (come on)
The Mummy Returns (I need more creativity and oomph than that)

I like numbers, just so I can have them all lined up on my DVD shelf without having to tack on the renamed ones at the end. I had a nice clean run of The Friday The 13th series until New Line got involved.

It depends on the movie.

One thing that would annoy me is if the name already had a number in it and then they put a 2 at the end for a sequal.

I prefer new names as well. But if it is a crappy franchise I don't give a flip.
I hate Die Hard, Die Harder, Die Harder with a Vengence.
I prefer SotL, Hannibal, etc; Mad Max, The Road Warrior, etc.
I can handle a franchise like Star Wars, Star Trek having subtitles, and I like the Batman titles, but these are the perfect title for these series.

There really are many ways to go about sequel naming.

A simple number (Scream 2)
Number with Subtitle (Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers)
Roman Numeral (Halloween II)
Roman Numeral with Subtitle (Halloween II: Season of the Witch)
Subtitle, no number or roman numeral (Halloween: Resurrection)
Episode + Roman Numeral (Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace)
Part + Number (Friday the 13th Part 2)
Part + Roman Numeral, with Subtitle (Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan)
Subtitle first... then roman numeral (Damien: Omen II)
Subtitle first... then part + roman numeral (Rambo: First Blood Part II)
Subtitle first, no number (The Lost World: Jurassic Park)
Just a new name (Hannibal)
Pluralize the first one (Aliens)
Change the verb tense in the subtitle (Die Hard 2: Die Harder 2)
Follow with a verb (The Mummy Returns, Batman Returns)
*** of (the) [Original Title]... (Return of the Pink Panther, Bride of Frankenstein)
Add another, next, or a similar prefix (Another 48 Hours, Next Friday)
Keep the character, change the rest (Austin Powers in Goldmember, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade)
Alter the location (Beneath the Planet of the Apes)
