LOTR 1: trivial questions (spoilers!)
- how did Aragorn know the Hobbits would be in Bree?
- why did the Wraith stab Frodo in the shoulder? Why not just kill him and take the ring?
- how did Arwen find Aragorn in the woods?
Thanks

Different means, same end.

If it's in a book, what section?

It's the kind of thing for the uninitiated where you either just suspend your disbelief or 'deduce' it from what you observe in the film. Or read the lore.

I remember reading in FOTR that Gandalf and Aragorn spent many years(17 years went by after Biblo's departure and Gandalf's return to the Shire to see Frodo) finding Gollum.
So it makes sense that he would know the Hobbits were in Bree since he worked so closely with Gandalf.

In the movie, after Gandalf sends Frodo and Sam on their way, you get the impression that he rides to Isengard in about 24 hours (on a "normal" horse, not Shadowfax). I have trouble swallowing that to begin with, so a detour to arrange a Bree meeting with Aragorn is just out of the question (unless they used some of that elf-telepathy).
No, I think in the movie you have to just decide for yourself when you think Gandalf and Aragorn might have talked in the past and how much Gandalf might have guessed what was going to transpire as it did.

Aragorn and the Rangers have been watching over the Shire for years. Who is to say that Gandalf didn't tell Aragorn to meet the Hobbits in Bree before he told Frodo to go there?

There was obviously a meeting between Gandalf and Aragorn at some point, we just don't know when. Most likely, it occurred after Gandalf sent Frodo and Sam off to Bree, otherwise, he would've told them that Aragorn would be waiting for them there, or he could've brought Aragorn with him to escort Frodo to Bree.
My guess is that after Gandalf found out the true nature of the Ring, he immediately went to Frodo and sent him out of the Shire as he went about gathering allies. We heard him mention that he would consult the head of his order (Saruman), and we can then assume that he was gathering allies and sending them to Bree. Chances are, he met up with Aragorn on the way to consult Saruman and sent him off to Bree to meet the Hobbits. Also not that Aragorn knew the name "Underhill," and also knew that it wasn't Frodo's name.
But since Gandalf was held captive by Saruman, he wasn't able to gather allies until he escaped, and they all met up at Rivendell.
(This is based on the events of the movie, not the books.)

Right, a quote from the film by Gandolf, "There are many a magic ring that can turn the wearer invisible Bilbo Baggins, and none of them should be used lightly."
