Last House on the Left... is it good?

Is this a good horror movie? I like Wes Craven stuff, so I'm wondering what everyone thought of this movie. I've seen some websites that have it in their top 10 list of horror, and one had it at #1, while others claim it to be over-rated. It seems to get mixed reviews so I just wanted to see what you guys thought of it. No spoilers please

Define what you mean by "good"...

I bought this blind without even reading the back cover of the DVD and was pleasantly (don't know if that's the right word) surprised by the second half of this film. It's over the top, with some bad performances but if you know what you're getting into it could be worth a look. Besides, isn't it under $9 at Wal-Mart? Not too much more than a rental.

I didn't think it was that good. I didn't find it especially offensive, and I do admire the raw documentary feel of the first 2/3 of the movie, but it really loses a lot in the last third due to a major change in both plot and style.

In any case, it's a very amateurish film, and I would argue that its amateurishness is not the "good kind" demonstrated by, say, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre; instead of tapping at some primal form of horror, the film is mostly jarring and uneasy. One cannot help but feel uncomfortable watching it, but this may well be more due to frustration than fear.

THis isn't the "Scream" Wes Craven. It is a raw, brutal, and documentary approach to capture violence in our culture. Yes, some acting is bad, Yes, the music is horrendous. No, this movie isn't bad. If you like the 70's gut's and gore films (Night of the living dead, Dawn of the dead, Texas Chainsaw Massacre) then pick it up!

I second his sentiment. I also bought this blind when I was out looking for some horror movies I had not seen to add to my collection. Holy crap....this was the single worst movie I have ever seen!! I sold it on ebay the very next day for exactly whay I paid for it which was $9.99 at Wal-Mart.
