Favorite Western?
It's a safe assumption to say that this genre has died off in recent years. Films like Texas Rangers and American Outlaws just don't cut it. However, it was arguably the strongest genre of film since its inception.
I do have a single favorite Western -- and that movie is Shane. Storytelling at its finest and a classic confrontation of good vs bad.
Honorable mentions of mine include the following:
The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance
The Searchers
High Noon
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
The Wild Bunch (though not a typical Western)
She Wore a Yellow Ribbon
Once Upon a Time in the West
Gunfight at the O.K. Corral
Patt Garrett and Billy the Kid
Ride the High Country

My absolute favorite is The Cowboys. It doesn't have the best story, acting, or visuals but it sucks me no matter when I see it.

The Western genre is quickly becoming one of my favorites - especially after this month on TCM. I've caught quite a few great Westerns that I had never seen before...

I haven't seen some of the classics (High Noon, Shane, The Searchers), but favorite out of the ones I have seen is Leone's Once Upon A Time In The West.
I've only seen the cut version of Pat Garrett And Billy The Kid and desperately want to check out the director's cut. Have any of you seen it?

Lots of good ones mentioned here, including my favorite. For 50 years the greatest Western has been High Noon. Probably always will be.

My other favorite Westerns are:

Magnificent Seven
For a Few Dollars More
...and one that doesn't get mentioned too much which I really love is The Big Country---just a fantastic, sweeping, widescreen epic, IMO.

My all time favorite is probably Unforgiven. I also enjoy The Magnificent Seven, The Searchers, Stagecoach, and Shane. I have to admit though that this isn't my favorite Genre.
