Buffy / Angel question, PLEASE NO SPOILERS!!!!!

I've seen the first and second season of Buffy since the DVDs came out and I'm virtually addicted to the show now. However, I see that Season 1 of Angel comes out very close to the release date of Season 3 Buffy on DVD. Without any explanation or reasoning, could somebody just tell me at what point the television show separarted from Buffy? I'm assuming it's at the end of Season 3, but I'm not quite sure. PLEASE NO SPOILERS. Thanks.

Yes, after Buffy's 3rd season was over, the next year, Angel's series started up in tandem with Buffy's 4th season.

Many thanks guys, it's been nearly impossible to avoid the spoilers since I'm so far behind in the series.

There are a few crossover episodes too the first season of Buffy.

Damn I wish they could still do that.

Cooper meant to say that there was some crossovers in the first season of Angel (with the season 4 of Buffy).

Since it sounds you're very concerned about spoilers, I won't give you the detail I posted in the other Angel thread, but when you watch these, just make sure you watch Buffy 4 and Angel 1 at the same time. That ensures perfect compatability (except for one offset that has zero significance) up to the point when Buffy moved to UPN, and since that point, there hasn't been any significant coordination between the shows.

It's real simple: watch Buffy 4.01 then Angel 1.01, etc. if you want the full experience.

It will also be obvious when the shows got seperate networks. The crossovers from regulars suddenly stop and their pasts are seldom mentioned.
