Marvel vs DC -who's more successful

I read recently that Marvel is more succesful that DC. Is this true? By how much of the market share.

I would have thought that Batman and Superman who are icons would outsell Spiderman or X-Men.

Does anyone have a list of where all the various titles rank?

If you get Previews every month from your local comic shop, there is a list inside showing the best selling comics from the previous month.

Or you could click here: Market Share Information.

Edit: Sorry that was just the market share stats. I forgot to add the link for Titles Ranked by Sales. You can get there from the first link, but it's easy to overlook if you're just scanning the site.

X-Men has been the #1 selling comic book for a long time. I believe that back in the early 90s DC was winning in comic book sales but I do believe that Marvel holds the #1 spot now.

Here is a list of the top 20 selling comic books for April 2002 (and you can see Marvel has the most titles in it). I found the list on the Toon Zone forums, who said they got it from Wizard. So Wizard magazine probably publishes the list every month.

1 TRANSFORMERS GENERATION ONE #1 $2.95

2 NEW X-MEN #125 $2.25

3 ULTIMATES #4 $2.25

4 AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #40 (RES) $2.25

5 ULTIMATE X-MEN #17 $2.25

6 UNCANNY X-MEN #405 $2.25

7 CAPTAIN AMERICA #1 $3.99

8 ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #21 $2.25

9 WOLVERINE #175 (Note Price) $3.50

10 GI JOE #5 $2.95

11 X-TREME X-MEN #12 $2.99

12 GREEN ARROW #14 $2.50

13 JLA #65 $2.25

14 AVENGERS #53 $2.25

15 SPIDER-MAN PETER PARKER #42 $2.25

16 WOLVERINE HULK #3 $3.50

17 SPIDER-MAN PETER PARKER #43 $2.25

18 DETECTIVE COMICS #769 $2.50

19 DAREDEVIL #32 $2.99

20 X-FACTOR #1 (Of 4) $2.50
