HT Connection Conundrum

Can you explain to me the advantages/disadvantages of running my video signals through my HT receiver?

I have digital cable, a HDTV monitor and a progressive scan DVD player.

My thinking is that I can run my video connections directly from my DVD player to my TV and the same can be said of my cable video feed.

Audio feeds in and out of my receiver I understand, but video has me baffled.

My HT receiver has video inputs and outputs, so I'm wondering if I'm missing out on something here.

Thanks for any insight on this.

Advantages..
- your TV has a limited number of inputs. Using your receiver will give you more inputs.
- normally, you have to set the audio input on the receiver and video input on the tv. Using your receiver, you only have to change the input on the receiver..

Disadvantages..
- You have to buy another cable to connect from receiver to TV.
- Possible signal degradation if the connection doesn't have enough bandwidth, etc.

Unless you have a need to switch video through your receiver my personal preference would be to run the video straight to the TV.

Depending on your receiver the ability to switch is nice.
