need some advice on my HT

I was wondering if anyone would mind looking at what I currently have and tell me what is in need of upgrade. I have a little extra money and I am ready to spend it.

I know my audio is the weakest part, I lived in a really small apartment and made due, but now I have a little more room.

I would be interested to hear what you guys have, what you like and don't like, etc.

Here is what I am working with.....
I will post some pics later to give a little perspective.

Thanks a lot!!

Well getting rid of the Bose speakers would help, nobody will argue that except BP

I would say those or the receiver first.

You didn't mention your budget?

If you can get some Polks to match the ones you already have and a Denon 1802/2802, Onkyo 494/595 or a Marantz 4200/5200 your system would sound alot better

I thought that I might hear that about the bose.....

As for budget, I do not really have one set in stone, I plan on just selling some dvds to pay for the upgrades. Off the top of my head, I would like to keep the receiver under 750 but I need component in/outs, and for the speakers I have no idea. I know nothing in this area. Can someone give me an idea of what Brands to start at?

I have only heard good things about this receiver. I was looking at the 3802 and that will be what I am getting this fall most likely.

I have a 2802 and it is very nice. My other receiver was an Onkyo 575 and although it was nice the 2802 blows it away in features and sound quality.

I am not sure how the Polk speakers sound, but I know my Paradigm's are a bit "bright" and when I added the 2802 the hole system "warmed" up alot. My bass is a bit tighter now due to the crossover circuits used in the 2802!

In the December 2001 issue of Sound & Vision they compared the Denon 2802($799) to a Pioneer VSX-805S($685) and Sony STR-DB1070($1000) and the Denon killed them in actual surround power ratings.

In Dolby Digital, the Sony had a crappy 31 watts per channel, despite its 100 watt claim! The noise level on the 2802 was also 3dB better than the Pioneer and about 8dB better than the Sony.

It also beat the Sony in power rating for the at stereo listening, but trailed the Pioneer.

But, in defense of the Sony DB-1070 receiver, it offers 25 useless surround modes

You looking for a set of 5 speakers for under $300, or a pair for under $300?

300 a pair would be ok, but I could go a little more if I had to.

The PSB Image 2B is hands down my favorite speaker for $300 a pair.

They are nice, medium sized bookshelves, excellent sound for both movies and music.
