Brands For Less files for bankruptcy

Each week, I send a detailed email to BFL customer service demanding my various shipping rebates for making purchases by linking through their site. I’ve got orders made from as far back as July 2001 for a total of over $175 in rebate checks due me. I even have a $20 rebate check coming from them from their recent ValuPoints frequent buyer program.

After nearly two months of sending these emails out and getting no replies, I got this one yesterday.
Dear lumberjack,

We regret to inform you that the company managing and operating Brandsforless.com has filed for bankruptcy under chapter 7 of the bankruptcy code. The company is effectively closed as of February 15, 2002.

We sincerely appreciate your loyal patronage in the past.

Sincerely,

Customer Service
On the one hand, I’m glad that I don’t have to keep track of all of this. On the other hand, I had a lot of rebates coming to me and I usually count on these rebates as part of the overall deal I receive. Now if I were to go back and figure out how much I actually paid at these various stores, I imagine the savings wouldn’t be any better than getting the cheapest price available during release week at a B&M store.

What I find puzzling about this whole organization is that their Web site is still up and functioning. There’s no mention of bankruptcy or anything. The only explanation I can come up with is that maybe BFL is paid up to a certain month on their Web space.

Anyway, if anyone out there has a glimmer of hope on getting a past rebate from BFL, I’m sorry to report that it’s not going to happen.

Son of a . . .

I guess that means I'll never get the $35 that they owe me.

Their phones are still working, but nobody's answering.
