Shenmue II still on track for DC release!!

In Europe that is , anyway I'm actually glad I was wrong this time, good news is that they're not canceling the UK Dreamcast version and it is very much coming out on November 30th. You can read that statement as a big "sucks to be you in the US" from sega . Anyway I found some stores that do international orders and are preordering for it. DC ign has a nice guide on how to play PAL games. Less than a month to go!

I would think so. All you need is a boot disk. I don't even think you need a modded DC

Most likely, no.

Japan and America are NTSC, Europe is PAL.

Here ya go, this is from dc.ign.com. In short, the answer is Yes!

"European Version of Shenmue 2:

Due out hopefully by the end of November, most of you will probably want to get your hands on a European copy of the game since it'll be a bit easier to understand (via subtitles). However, there's the big concern about the European version having a PAL video signal that makes it pretty hard to play on normal NTSC televisions.

But first, you can play European Dreamcast games on a US Dreamcast by using a device like the Gameshark CDX or the DC-X. Now about viewing them, there's a simple solution for anyone who owns a Dreamcast VGA Box. So long as they keep the European version of Shenmue 2 VGA compatible, Dreamcast owners who own a VGA box to play Dreamcast games on their monitor will should have no problem whatsoever playing the PAL version of Shenmue 2. Those without a VGA box, there's still hope. Most major European Dreamcast games have a video setting mode that allows you to change from a PAL signal to a NTSC signal and considering that the European version of Shenmue 2 might be the most imported DC game to the US, there's a chance they'll include this feature in Shenmue 2. But if they don't, you can buy a PAL-NTSC adapter from most electronic stores though last time I checked, they can run you up to fifty dollars or more depending how high a quality signal you want."

You heard it here, I've already got a Gameshark CDX, and they said most European games have video setting switches built in to them, hopefully this is true with Shenmue II. If not there may be a boot disc that does ntsc/pal selecting.

Japan and America are NTSC, Europe is PAL.
But, in the PAL version (as with MOST PAL games) there is the option to play at 60hz... which is NTSC

or you can use the VGA adapter and play on your monitor

or you can get a NTSC/PAL convertor

There are 3 ways around that problem and one of them is programmed into the game.

Seems very dumb of Sega, since this will probably
insure that more people in the US will just get the
cracked version instead of buying it...

Here's another one www.simplygames.com

Thanks for that site mljones99, it says on the site that Shenmue II DOES support 60Hz NTSC mode YES!!!! here's the quote

"One player
60 hz mode support
DC VMU support
DC Rumble pack support"

Once I saw the pictures of the redheaded girl I had to get this game, I don't want to wait another year to find out who she is

European games are region 2 games. Will the game play on a US (Region 1) Dreamcast WITHOUT a boot disk or gameshark? I'd say no because what would be the point of Region encoding if a game played anywhere in the world?

I'm not referring to the PAL/NTSC issue, which was addressed earlier.

Or, like most Pal games released by groups, they come with a fix that allows you to play them on NTSC televisions.

I don't want to modify my DC, so maybe I'll have to get this:

Did your total for the game come out to 33.99 pounds (around $50 US)?

**THERE IS NO NEED TO MOD YOUR DREAMCAST OR BUY A DC-X OR GAMESHARK**

Simply go to http://www.dcemulation.com

Download and burn the Utopia Boot CD. It lets you play any region DC game on your DC - plus it's FREE.

Cheers!
