Arctic Thunder ships today, NHL 2002 is scheduled to ship next Tuesday. I guess they wanted to move it to a busy release date (ICO, Silent Hill 2 and Spy Hunter should all be shipping that day) for some reason. I have heard nothing about either, but NHL 2002 is supposed to have DTS on-the-fly sound during the game and no slowdown like last year.

How is that possible? NHL 2001 was near-perfect!!
The only problems were loading times and defenders sometimes facing the wrong way.

I don't have a PS2, but I played and loved Artic Thunder in the arcades. Its definitely a "Thunder" game (boosts), but adds a few tricks and weapon power ups. If/when I get a PS2, I'm def. going to buy it, as its alot of fun

It was nowhere near perfect. The graphics were brutal, it had MAJOR slowdown, and the gameplay was slow too.

but in 2002 the graphics are super crisp, the sound is top notch, but this game is FAST!!! I mean at it's fastest it might just be too fast.

NHL2K whooped NHL 2001.

But NHL 2002 is awesome.

I thought the graphics were incredible.
I'm not a hockey fan, but after playing NHL 2001 on a friend's PS2, I had to go out and buy a PS2 myself! I never noticed any slowdown during gameplay, only in the menus....not even with the speed jacked up all the way. It's a MUCH better experience if you turn the speed up....maybe the default speed on NHL 2002 is just set higher.

After playing NHL 2001 for 4 hours every week with 3 friends for the past few months, we popped the old copy of NHL2K into the DC and found it unplayable.
However, NBA Live 2001 is complete garbage compared to NBA2K1.

I did turn the speed up on 2001 and it was still super slow. You'll see what I mean

And the best upgrade (IMO) is delayed replays. Say you rob somebody of a sure goal but the game doesnt stop for a few minutes. Well the game remembers your big save and shows you the replay when play stops. All the cut scenes are crazy!! All done in widescreen!

I got the demo from trusty newsgroups

I've finished 2 seasons and the speed hasn't bothered me at all.
I'll still be the first person in line to buy NHL 2002, tho!
