Hayao Miyazaki is getting up there in age and while it may be a tough discussion, he’s not getting any younger and making anime films is hard work, so much so that his latest film The Boy and the Heron, thought to be his last, spent the better part of a decade in production. But according to a senior staff member at Studio Ghibli, Miyazaki has more films inside of him.

Speaking to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation on the red carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival where The Boy and the Heron was the opening film, the head of public relations at Studio Ghibli Junichi Nishioka says, quoting the tweet by reporter Eli Glasner, “The Boy and the Heron is not Miyazaki’s final film and that he is already coming into the office with new ideas.”

Famed animator Hayao Miyazaki might not be done making films, says Studio Ghibli exec

Speaking through a translator on a TIFF red carpet, a studio vice-president says Miyazaki is still working

Hayao Miyazaki might not be done making movies.

On a red carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival for the director's latest film, The Boy and the Heron, Studio Ghibli executive Junichi Nishioka told CBC's Eli Glasner that the animation stalwart is still hard at work.

"Other people say that this might be his last film, but he doesn't feel that way at all," said Nishioka through a translator.

"He is currently working on ideas for a new film. He comes into his office every day and does that. This time, he's not going to announce his retirement at all. He's continuing working just as he has always done."

Nippon TV to Acquire Studio Ghibli as Subsidiary

NTV would be largest shareholder of Ghibli with 42.3% share

The Nippon TV (NTV) television broadcasting company announced on Thursday that it has decided to acquire 42.3% of the shares of world-famous animation studio Ghibli. This transaction, once completed, would make NTV the largest shareholder of the Ghibli, and turn the studio into a subsidiary of Nippon TV.
Both companies called an urgent press conference on Thursday, with Nippon TV representative director and operating officer Yoshikuni Sugiyama and Ghibli president and co-founder Toshio Suzuki mutually announcing the planned acquisition. During the press conference, Suzuki admitted that a search for a "successor" for the studio's co-founders, which include studio's acclaimed director Hayao Miyazaki, was what prompted the acquisition plans. Suzuki noted that Miyazaki is 82 years old, and Suzuki himself is 75. The studio did approach Miyazaki's son Goro Miyazaki many times to become a successor to run the studio, but the younger Miyazaki has so far refused all offers, and Hayao Miyazaki also opposes his son becoming the studio's head. NTV has been in talks with Ghibli for a possible acquisition since last year.

Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki have had a long relationship with NTV, dating back to the airing of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind on NTV's then-new "Kinyō Roadshow" movie programming block in 1985. Miyazaki's films have since aired regularly on the block, to consistently high ratings. NTV once hosted Ghibli's official website until Ghibli began using its own hostname.

Hayao Miyazaki (82y old) yesterday thanked San Sebastian festival (Spain) for the Donostia prize he received, rewarding his career.
He hadn’t appeared in public for a long time.
He said he’s currently working on exhibits for Ghibli Park.

I'm not going to harsh anybody's vibe - but does anyone else just not see the appeal of a live action adaptation of an amazing beautiful animated film? How can it compare?

It's a stage play, right, not like a live action movie? I can see the appeal.

It did very well with limited theatrical release (almost $1.5 million in 4 days).

Just posting this here...

WIND PRINCESS - SHORT FILM (NAUSICAÄ TRIBUTE)

This is not an official licensed product. This independent non-profit short film is entirely self-funded and was made in Brazil as a tribute to the great artist Hayao Miyazaki,
who has always been an inspiration to me.

We are not a large company. Rather, we are a group of friends who have been working on this project for almost 7 years, fueled only by our love of the art.

The film is free of charge, as our only aim is to pay homage to Mr. Miyazaki and the entire wonderful team at Studio Ghibli.

Studio Ghibli co-founder Toshio Suzuki confirmed that Hayao Miyazaki has not retired. “He needs to empty his mind again, and then when he’s emptied his mind with a blank canvas, he usually comes up with new ideas. So we have to wait a little more.” https://www.indiewire.com/features/a...li-1234927630/
