Question about Galaxy Express 999 Blu-rays

I recently found Blu-rays of the two Galaxy Express movies on eBay and in the auction listing the seller says that both movies have English audio and subtitles. I checked with playasia.com to make sure they were legit and it looks like they are, but the listings on play asia doesn't say anything about either movie having English audio or subtitles. I was wondering if someone on here either has the films and could confirm whether they have English audio and subtitles or point me in the direction of a website where I could check up on this. Any help would be appreciated.

Those eBay listings has to be bootlegs. The asking price for the Japan release is much higher (over $200). From the different sites that I looked, there is no English audio and subtitles for this release as well. More information can be found here and here.

That sucks. Looks like I'll have to stick with my VHS versions.

Re: Question about Galaxy Express 999 Blu-rays

It's a little odd for me to register just to post one time, but I felt I should post here.

I unknowingly bought this bootleg from the eBay seller, and could tell it was a bootleg immediately. The Bluray was not factory wrapped, but a resealable, Japan-like packaging. The Bluray case was real, however, and the label was a little fuzzy, but looks fairly decent. I had a Darkstalkers OVA bootleg once before and it was horrific quality. The label on the bootleg is sketchy, it feels rough, not smooth like a normal bluray. Upon inserting it into my normal bluray player, The intro to the bluray was garbled, the menus were fine, but the movie refused to play.

The PS3 had better luck, but would not play the intro. The movie plays, and the audio quality for the english dub is stellar, I doubt a signature edition VHS could be upscaled so well, which makes me wonder where the audio source came from. The subtitles are also working in english. I couldn't tell you how well they are because I haven't watched the full movie yet. As I type, I am installing a firmware update to my dmp-bd30 to see if that makes any difference in playing the bootleg. ... And it did not. Oh well. Now to think of alternatives to getting a 1080p English version of GE999.

Happy Hunting.
