The colossal Attack on Titan anime will soon be returning to screens around the world for the first half of the Final Season Part 3. The official Twitter account for the series revealed today that the first half will be a one-hour special airing NHK-G on March 4, leading viewers on the path that is the Final Arc later in the year.


The first half of Attack on Titan Final Season Part 3 Final Arc is scheduled to air on NHK General on March 4 at 12:25 AM Japan time as a one-hour special with Yuichiro Hayashi returning to direct the next part at MAPPA. The second part is scheduled for sometime in 2023.

East Japan prefecture's mascot character 'Gunmachan' to enter US market

MAEBASHI -- "Gunmachan," the mascot character of east Japan's Gunma Prefecture, will enter the U.S. market this spring or later in an effort to increase its domestic and international recognition, the prefectural government has decided.

The prefectural government will launch overseas promotions by means including exhibiting Gunmachan at expositions in the United States where anime fans gather. It will also consider meet-and-greet events with fans in the U.S.

The prefecture plans to promote in the U.S. and other countries the second season of an anime featuring Gunmachan, which will begin airing in April, and its first season, which has already aired. By having the overseas audience watch the anime on Amazon Prime Video and other streaming services, Gunma Prefecture wants to increase recognition and popularity among anime fans outside Japan.

Gunma Prefecture will also launch a new YouTube activity for young children ahead of the 30th anniversary of Gunmachan's debut in 1994. The plan is to distribute videos of the mascot singing nursery rhymes and playing hand games, and the prefectural government is considering holding stage shows and inviting parents and children who have become Gunmachan fans. The character has shown a different side of itself by performing intense dance routines on TikTok that the prefecture started last October. In the initial budget plan for fiscal 2023 announced on Feb. 3, the prefectural government included a related budget of 330.89 million yen (about $2.5 million) for the Gunmachan branding project.

Adult Swim began streaming on Wednesday a trailer for Ballmastrz: Rubicon, an animated special for the Ballmastrz: 9009 series, with animation director Takashi Nakamura (Akira animation director and character designer, Fantastic Children, Robot Carnival, Yatterman) and Studio 4°C (Detroit Metal City, Mind Game, Tekkon Kinkreet).

The special, a sequel of the series' second season, will premiere on Adult Swim on February 20 at 12:00 p.m. (effectively, February 21). It will stream on HBO Max and digital retailers on February 21. PFFR is producing the special.

HOUSTON, TX — February 13, 2023 — HIDIVE revealed today that it has acquired new action fantasy TV series HELCK from Nippon TV, based on the popular shōnen manga written and illustrated by Nanaki Nanao. The long-awaited anime series will be simulcast exclusively on HIDIVE and is scheduled to premiere during the upcoming Summer 2023 season. As part of its announcement HIDIVE premiered the first-ever promotional video for HELCK (with English subtitles).

A certain country in the demon world. The Demon King was defeated by the hands of one of the heroes, and a competition was held for the title of the New Demon King. The Imperial Four Heavenly Kings Vermilio, who is in charge of the tournament, is furious at the participation of the human hero Helck, who is supposed to be his enemy. After receiving news of the fall of the castle of Urum before the final, Vermilio sets out to retake Urum Castle with Helck and other finalists. With a smile, Helck says, "Let's destroy humans." Are those words true? The truth behind the smile is...

The 12-volume HELCK manga series launched in 2014 and was serialized in both Shogakukan's Ura Sunday website and MangaONE. In 2015, it was named one of the Top 10 titles at the Next Manga Awards.

HELCK will be directed by Tatsuo Sato together with writing by Toshizo Nemoto and Mitsutaka Hirota, character design by Yoshinori Deno, and animation by SATELIGHT Inc. The series stars Katsuyuki Konishi as Helck, Mikako Komatsu as Vermilio, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Azudra, Akira Ishida as Hon and Shiki Aoki as Asta.

Netflix Announces PLUTO Anime Series Based on Fan-Favorite Manga by Naoki Urasawa and Takashi Nagasaki

Netflix today announced an animated series based on the manga PLUTO, produced by GENCO, with animation production by M2STUDIO and set for release later this year.

Praised by many as a masterpiece, the manga PLUTO is based on Osamu Tezuka’s Astro Boy ‘The Greatest Robot on Earth’ arc from 1964 and created by Naoki Urasawa (20th Century Boys, Yawara!, Master Keaton) and his long-time co-creator Takashi Nagasaki.

The suspense drama takes place in a neo-futuristic world where humans and high-functioning robots live in complete harmony. The globally acclaimed manga has won numerous awards, including the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize. The 2015 stage adaptation of PLUTO returned in 2018 by popular demand and toured Japan and Europe.

“I applaud the courage of everyone that has taken on the challenge of making an anime based on PLUTO. I am excited about the birth of this new series to win over people’s hearts. I hope that now more than ever, Osamu Tezuka's message reaches the world,” says author Naoki Urasawa.

Co-author Takashi Nagasaki adds: “PLUTO inherits the philosophy of Tezuka and does not merely convey a message of anti-war, but reminds us that there is suffering on both sides… but still, the only remaining answer is peace.”

Supervisor Macoto Tezka, son of the late Osamu Tezuka adds: “The animated PLUTO is the real deal, and in addition to this being Urasawa’s latest work, this is also a new Tezuka anime. I can hardly wait to see how this new generation of anime turns out.”
