Re: Unreleased Licensed U.S. Anime Properties
SANTA MONICA, CA (January 22, 2019) - Aniplex of America and Fathom Events have teamed up with the National Pancreas Foundation for the release of the anime film I want to eat your pancreas, which hits movie theaters nationwide on February 7 and 10. The heartwarming, coming-of-age film is based on Yoru Sumino's bestselling novel about two teenagers, an aloof bookworm and a bubbly high school girl who suffers from an unspecified terminal pancreatic illness. The film, which comes to over 400 movie theaters across the U.S. in February, will be accompanied with a pre-show which includes information on the pancreas as well as services provided by the National Pancreas Foundation in hopes of raising awareness on a not often talked about topic. The foundation's website states its mission as providing "hope for those suffering from pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer through funding cutting edge research, advocating for new and better therapies, and providing support and education for patients, caregivers, and health care professionals."
"We are thrilled to be working with the National Pancreas Foundation," says Shu Nishimoto, President of Aniplex of America. "Though the film doesn't specify the character's condition, the fact that she is only in high school and suffering a terminal pancreatic illness is not an implausible scenario, but a very real thing. We hope this film will help start much needed conversations about our health and inspire moviegoers to live their best lives as our heroine does."
"This trailer is a glimpse into the complex and multifaceted lives of those suffering from pancreatic disease," says Cecila Petricone, chronic pancreatitis patient and volunteer - the National Pancreas Foundation, "particularly highlighting the effects disease has on those who care for the sufferer."

HOUSTON, TX, January 27, 2019 - Sentai Filmworks announced today that it acquired The Price of Smiles for streaming as well as exclusive rights for home video, television, and transactional video on demand. The original series is produced by iconic anime studio, Tatsunoko Production (Speed Racer, Gatchaman) in celebration of their 55th anniversary. Sentai Filmworks will distribute the series in the USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, Latin America, Scandinavia, the Netherlands, Spain and Portugal.
On a world far removed from the Earth, there is a certain kingdom that's brimming with smiles. Fate thrusts young Princess Yuki, filled with idealism, joy, and innocence, into a station in life for which her most endearing qualities are ill-matched. Her kingdom faces grave danger as the Empire threatens the realm's security. Meanwhile, on the opposite side of the conflict, an imperial soldier known as Stella Shining hides behind a facade. However, a time may come where her mask cracks, potentially costing her everything. Princess Yuki and Stella's paths will cross, and the fate of nations will follow.

The Japanese voice cast includes Yumiri Hanamori (Grimoire of Zero, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime) as Princess Yuki Soleil and Saori Hayami (Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?, Land of the Lustrous) as Stella Shining. HOUSTON, TX – January 29, 2019 – Sentai Filmworks and Kadokawa Pictures today announced that its first film in the two-part MADE IN ABYSS compendium, Journey’s Dawn, will screen across hundreds of movie theater locations in the U.S. Heralded as an adventure that’s both hopeful and harrowing, Journey’s Dawn will be shown in theaters on March 20 for the Japanese with English subtitled screening and March 25 for the English dub showing. The MADE IN ABYSS television series took audiences by surprise and garnered ecstatic reviews with its disarming facade that shrouded a dark masterpiece. Now, cinema audiences can experience the timeless story with newly added scenes and dynamic storytelling.
Presented in partnership with Fathom Events, tickets for MADE IN ABYSS: Journey’s Dawn are available at participating box offices and online at www.MadeInAbyssMovies.com and www.FathomEvents.com. To give audiences a unique experience, the event will include behind-the-scenes footage, Japanese created spots and a reflection on how MADE IN ABYSS mirrors fairytales.
Prior to the Fathom Events’ dates for MADE IN ABYSS: Journey’s Dawn, Sentai Filmworks will host the English subtitled red carpet event on March 15 at the Regal Cinema (L.A. LIVE) in downtown Los Angeles, Ca. The premiere will feature numerous special guests including famed director Masayuki Kojima, composer Kevin Penkin, music producer Hiromitsu Iijima and producer Shimpei Yamashita.
“On top of our major premiere event, we’re thrilled to present MADE IN ABYSS across hundreds of cinemas nationwide,” said John Ledford, CEO of Sentai Filmworks. “From the storyline, to the art style and music, Journey’s Dawn is sure to entertain fans and new audiences by allowing those to venture ‘deeper’ and ‘darker’ into this captivating film.”
Synopsis
The enigmatic Abyss is an unforgiving and deadly place. Despite the dangers, it still captures the imagination of explorers such as Riko who wishes to follow in her mother’s footsteps and trains hard to become a Cave Raider. One day, she receives news that her mother died in the Abyss, yet a mysterious note tells Riko that her mother may still be alive. Vowing to uncover the truth about her mother’s fate, Riko embarks on a journey with a humanoid robot boy name Reg. Together, they will discover if they have what it takes to survive where so many others have perished.

NEWS | Director of Afro Samurai Will Reveal New Sci Fi Film with Funimation at C2E2
We're joining the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo again this year! And we couldn't wait to give you a peek into all the cool stuff happening at this convention, which will run for three days on March 22-24, 2019.
Funimation will be hosting an exciting panel on Friday, March 22 in which Fuminori Kizaki (Director of Afro Samurai), Toshiaki Obata (Marketing Producer of PSYCHO-PASS), and Shuzo John Shiota (President of Polygon Pictures) will reveal a new sci-fi, cyberpunk film project with Funimation that explores the role of humanity in Tokyo, Japan of year 2036. Join us on 3/22 from 2:45 PM to 3:45 PM CT and be the first to know all about this new film produced by a dream team of world-renowned Japanese creators!
Learn more about our guests below:
Fuminori Kizaki - Anime Director
After graduating from Tokyo Animator College, Fuminori Kizaki worked as an animator for Studio Giants. Then he went on to establish a new studio called Hercules with some friends that shared the same ambitions. Later, Kizaki directed Afro Samurai series and Afro Samurai: Resurrection film, which was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program. His most notable works are Afro Samurai, Basilisk, and Bayonetta: Bloody Fate.
Toshiaki Obata - CEO and Producer of SlowCurve
Toshiaki Obata joined Gonzo in 2004, and he was in charge of marketing and licensing on many of Gonzo's titles. In 2011, he co-founded the company, SlowCurve, and worked as Chief Marketing/Advertising Producer for PSYCHO-PASS. He has expanded his career beyond PSYCHO-PASS as an Executive Producer of revisions, a new series on Fuji TV’s +Ultra animation TV block, while collaborating with Netflix.
Shuzo John Shiota - President of Polygon Pictures
Shuzo John Shiota was raised in the US and is a graduate of Sophia University Faculty of Law, Department of International Legal Studies. After joining the Nippon Steel Corporation in 1991, Shiota went on to participate in the launch of Dream Pictures Studio in 1997. He moved to Polygon Pictures two years later, and in 2003, assumed the position of President and CEO. As studio head, Shiota has spearheaded efforts to cultivate Polygon's overseas presence, helping the studio to become a leading developer of TV series and content targeted at the foreign market. Shiota has also served as a judge at major Japanese and international film festivals, including Prix Ars Electronica in Australia and SIGGRAPH in the US. In 2008, he was selected as one of the “25 Toon Titans of Asia” by popular industry publication Animation Magazine. He also presided as a judge at the 2016 Annecy International Animated Film Festival. His hobbies include playing in a band.

SOMETHING LEGENDARY IS COMING...
It's been 30 years of Dragon Ball Z and we want to celebrate in the most perfect way - with you! With your help, we're going to make a collector's edition worthy of a series this big, happen. Here's a look at what you can expect from this epic collection:
HOW THIS WORKS
In the coming weeks, we'll reveal full details of the set and open a reservation period for fans to reserve their copy of this must-have collector's edition. And while we'd like to just wish it into creation with the Dragon Balls, we're going to need at least 2,500 of you super fans to help make this happen!
We'll have full details and artwork to reveal soon - and you won't want to miss out! Be sure to keep up-to-date by signing up for emails.
F.A.Q.
WHY HOLD A RESERVATION CAMPAIGN?
Due to the high costs associated with the set, we need to guarantee a minimum number to print. We think a DBZ 30th anniversary set is an awesome idea, but we need to measure the interest!
WHY 2,500 UNITS?
This is the minimum build order for sets from our printers. This minimum makes sure that we can sell the product to you at an affordable price.
WHY ARE YOU HOSTING THIS HERE INSTEAD OF ON A PLATFORM LIKE KICKSTARTER?
The short answer? We aren't looking to crowdfund this set. We feel that Kickstarter and similar crowdfunding platforms are typically asking fans to fund the creation of new content, not something like a collector's edition which may be cool but isn't quite the same as new content. We love and support (and back!) lots of projects for new anime, new dubs, or new forays into the North American market, though!
IF THE SET DOESN'T HIT 2,500 UNITS, WILL IT REALLY NEVER BE CREATED?
We're holding ourselves to the commitment that your pledge actually means something and is more than a gesture, so if we don't hit the minimum, we will not create the set.
