Just who is Sakamoto? He’s enigmatic. He’s clever. He’s dashing. No challenge is too great and no cause is too small for Sakamoto. Girls love him, guys hate him for it, and despite efforts to humiliate him, Sakamoto is flawlessly able to emerge from the fray, even cooler than ever. Who knows what Sakamoto is going to do next? The series was directed by Shinji Takamatsu (Gintama, School Rumble), with character designs by Atsuko Nakajima (Trinity Blood, Getbackers and Ranma ½).

The show has a censored and uncensored version! It is very cute, fun and sexy and has a different angle then a lot of of ecchi shows these days, takin a bit more of a sexual education route/exploring sexuality route from the start. We don't feel it fits the Kitty Label because it isn't Hentai. We have some exciting kitty need coming up soon though!

Ponycan USA promoted the Kuromukuro and The Lost Village (Mayoiga) television anime and the Gekijō-ban Hibike! Euphonium: Kitauji Kōkō Suisōraku-Bu e Yōkoso anime film at Seattle's Sakura-Con on Saturday. The company is considering localizing these titles in English, but has not yet decided whether or not it will.

Ponycan USA also announced that it will start a YouTube live-stream channel on April 18 that will feature discussions with Japanese guests...

HOUSTON, MARCH 29, 2016 – Sentai Filmworks is proud to announce its acquisition of Tanaka-kun is Always Listless.

Adapted from the popular web manga series published by Square Enix, this unconventional, surrealist comedy follows an exhausted high school boy who, despite multiple attempts from his friends, still manages to spectacularly… sleep. Much to the chagrin of the energetic (at times bossy) Ohta, Tanaka is often found in a blissful state of lethargy, possessing the ability to doze off in any situation, especially in mid-sentence!

The series was directed by Shinya Kawatsura (Kokoro Connect, Non Non Biyori), with series composition by Akemi Omode (Get Backers, Tales of the Abyss) and character design by Haruko Iizuka (Inu x Boku Secret Service, School-Live!). Animation production was handled by SILVER LINK., the same studio responsible for WATAMOTE and Chivalry of a Failed Knight.

Tanaka-kun is Always Listless is scheduled for an April 2016 broadcast in Japan. It will soon be available for simulcast through select digital outlets, with a home video release to follow.

HOUSTON, March 31, 2016 – Sentai Filmworks is proud to announce its acquisition of Bakuon!! for the Spring 2016 simulcast season.

Moe and motorcycles have never looked better together in this sports comedy about a group of students in the motorcycle club of their all-girls school. When Hane Sakura sees the wild-hearted Onsa Amano riding a motorcycle to school, Sakura is inspired to join the motorcycle club and get her license. However, nothing could have prepared her for the challenges, or the joys, that come with hitting the road on the wings of a real bike!

The series, based on the original manga by Mimana Orimoto, was directed by Junji Nishimura (Ranma ½, GLASSIP, Dog Days) with Kurasumi Sunayama (Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere) in charge of series composition. TMS Entertainment, the same studio that produced Yowamushi Pedal, Magic Knight Rayearth, Kamisama Kiss, and Gugure! Kokkuri-san, was in charge of animation production.

Bakuon!! is scheduled for an April 2016 broadcast in Japan and will soon be available for simulcast on select digital outlets, with a home video release to follow.

The first episode (subtitled) of the brand new season will launch on VIZ Media’s anime streaming platform and will stream on Hulu in a special digital simulcast that will take place on the same day as its broadcast premiere in Japan. HOUSTON, APRIL 5, 2016 – Sentai Filmworks is proud to announce its acquisition of Onigiri, based on CyberStep’s hugely popular MMORPG of the same name. Set in mystical Japan, this is the story of young girls rising up to fight the Kamikui, powerful and ancient beings of darkness. This 13 episode short-format anime series begins airing on Tokyo MX and Fuji BS on April 7, 2016 and will simulcast on select digital outlets worldwide.

The series was directed by Takashi Yamamoto (A Dark Rabbit Has Seven Lives, Final Approach), with series composition by Takamitsu Kouno (Utawarerumono: The False Faces, Absolute Duo). Animation production was handled by Pierrot Plus, the same studio which produced Re-Kan!, Sabagebu! - Survival Game Club!, and Beelzebub.

HOUSTON, April 7, 2016 – Sentai Filmworks is proud to announce its latest acquisition, the space opera Cobra the Animation, as well the series’ two OVAs Cobra the Animation: Time Drive and Cobra the Animation: The Psychogun. Based on the best-selling 1978 manga by Buichi Terasawa, Cobra the Animation follows the adventures of a young man who abandons a life of adventure and danger by surgically altering his face and erasing his own memories. Assuming his new identity as an office worker named Johnson, the young man’s “normal” life is shattered when he is once again threatened by old enemies who are out for his life.

Keizo Shimizu (Shinshaku Sengoku Eiyū Densetsu - Sanada Jū Yūshi The Animation) directed the series and contributed to character designs alongside Akio Sugino, Ippei Masui, and Keiko Yamamoto. Series composition was helmed by Kazumi Koide (Wonder Beast Scramble, Dragoon OAV), and animation production was handled by Magic Bus.

Cobra the Animation will be available through select digital outlets, with a home video release to follow.

HOUSTON, APRIL 13, 2016 – Sentai Filmworks is proud to announce its acquisition of Flying Witch for the Spring 2016 anime season.

Based on the manga by Chihiro Ishizuka and serialized in Kodansha’s Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine, Flying Witch follows the adventures of 15-year-old Makoto Kowata, a teen witch whose only talent (currently) is being able to fly. In this supernatural coming-of-age tale, Makoto and her familiar, a black cat named Chito, move in with her second cousins in the beautiful and quaint Aomori Prefecture of northern Japan, where she learns to hone her magical skills.

J.C.STAFF, the studio behind such hits as Azumanga Daioh, Little Busters! The Familiar of Zero, and Is it Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? helms production. The series is directed by Katsushi Sakurabi (Gunparade March, Lunar Legend Tsukihime), with series composition by Deko Akao (Mysterious Girlfriend X, Noragami, Pretty Rhythm All Star Selection).

Flying Witch is scheduled for an April 2016 broadcast in Japan by Nippon TV. It will soon be available through select digital outlets with a home video release to follow.

Project Itoh: Explaining ‘The Empire of Corpses’, ‘Harmony’, and ‘Genocidal Organ’

‘The Empire of Corpses‘, ‘Harmony‘, and ‘Genocidal Organ’ are a trio of works by the late Japanese science fiction writer Satoshi Itō, under the pseudonym ’Project Itoh’. The novels have been (or are in the process of being) adapted into films. While Funimation announced the licenses to all three films and we often refer to them together, they are stand-alone works rather than a true trilogy! It can get a bit complicated, so we wanted to provide a little background for anyone new to world of Project Itoh!

- Satoshi Itō (Project Itoh) (Oct. 14, 1974 – March 20, 2009)
During his career as a web designer, he wrote a novel called Genocidal Organ and was nominated to Nihon SF Taisho Award in 2007. However, Itoh had been diagnosed, and dealing, with recurrent cancer since 2001 and hospitalized frequently for treatment. Itoh continued to write novels during his last several years, including Harmony and The Empire of Corpses, and passed away on March 20, 2009. Later on in 2012, Toh Enjoe, a fellow award-winning science fiction writer who had often appeared with Itoh at conventions and in interviews, announced at a press conference that he would complete Itoh’s unfinished novel The Empire of Corpses. Later, Noitamina adapted Project Itoh’s three novels into animated feature films. All three films were directed and produced by different directors and studios.

- The Empire of Corpses (In select US theaters April 19 & 20, tickets on sale now)
This film was released in Japan back in October 2015 and was the first film adaptation of Project Itoh’s works, animated and produced by WIT Studio (Attack on Titan and Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign). It is based on the award-winning novel by Project Itoh and completed by Toh Enjoe. The novel also won the Best Japanese Long Story category at 44th Seiun (Nebula) Awards in 2013 and the Special Award at Nihon SF Taisho Awards in 2012.

- Harmony (In select US theaters May 17 & 18)
This film was released in Japan in November 2015 and was the second film adaptation of Project Itoh’s novels, animated and produced by Studio 4°C (Berserk: The Golden Arc series and Thundercats [TV 2011]). The film is based on by Project Itoh’s Philip K. Dick award-winning novel. The novel also won the Best Japanese Long Story category at 40th Seiun (Nebula) Awards in 2009 and the Nihon SF Taisho Award in 2009.

- Genocidal Organ
The film has yet to release in Japan. The studio originally slated to produce it, Manglobe (Gangsta), filed for bankruptcy in September 2015. Genocidal Organ has been delayed to release in 2017 under a new studio called Geno Studio, with many key former staffers from Manglobe still involved.
