Re: Unreleased Licensed U.S. Anime Properties

Absolutely getting the Shin Chan set. The DVDs didn't have captions or subtitles and even with hearing aids I can't understand the majority of the dialog. I have been hoping they would do this SD on Blu for a few years now.

Also, this thread is really starting to have trouble loading on my computer, might be time to start a new thread?

Would a new thread really help? I wonder if your issue is caused from the various tweets/posts? The embed doesn't display right away (may be a few seconds). It could be even longer if you have a bunch of them in a wrong (like my last Discotek post).

I'm just thinking about how they reset the random pic thread in Other from time to time. The embedded things do slow it down a bit but right before I posted my comment, the page was loading like I was back on an old 53K baud modem.

Seemed okay today.

ANGEL'S EGG 4K Restoration | Official Trailer - In Theatres November 19

ANGEL'S EGG
From director Mamoru Oshii & artist Yoshitaka Amano
In theatres November 19

First released directly to home video in 1985, ANGEL'S EGG was produced by Tokuma Shoten and is a creative collaboration between internationally acclaimed director Mamoru Oshii (GHOST IN THE SHELL), who wrote and directed the feature, and revered artist Yoshitaka Amano (FINAL FANTASY, VAMPIRE HUNTER D). The film beautifully intertwines Oshii’s thematic reflections on philosophy and theology, with Amano’s distinctive ink painting style, culminating in an arrestingly beautiful hand-drawn allegorical fantasy. The 4K restoration has held an extensive festival debut prior to its theatrical rollout, having debuted at Cannes International Film Festival, with subsequent premieres at Fantasia Film Festival, Fantastic Fest, and New York Film Festival upcoming.

In an underwater city, a young girl takes care of a large egg she holds carefully in her arms – a treasure that she believes is an angel’s egg. A boy with a gun arrives in search of a bird he saw in his dream.

This October with New Abbreviated Official English Title

View Official Subtitled Trailer

HOUSTON, TXAUGUST 19, 2025 — AMC Networks’ HIDIVE rounded-out its line-up today with the addition of My Gift Lvl 9999 Unlimited Gacha: Backstabbed in a Backwater Dungeon, I'm Out for Revenge! (“My Gift Lvl 9999 Unlimited Gacha”) to its upcoming Fall 2025 season. Based on the popular light novel title written by Shisui Meikyo and widely known for its original 39 word long name, the new anime series will offer something for every fan — combining fantasy with action, adventure, drama, revenge and magic. Set to debut this October under its new shortened official English title, My Gift Lvl 9999 Unlimited Gacha will be simulcast exclusively on the fast-growing streaming service in both the U.S. and Canada as well as key overseas markets including the U.K., Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. As part of today’s announcement, HIDIVE also released the official English subtitled trailer for the series.

“We’re excited to add the new fantasy series My Gift Lvl 9999 Unlimited Gacha to our line-up of exclusive simulcasts for Fall 2025,” said John Ledford, President of HIDIVE. “My Gift Lvl 9999 Unlimited Gacha is guaranteed to entertain audiences ― starting this October and continuing all season long. With its mix of fantasy, action, adventure, drama, revenge and magic, this new series has something for everyone. My Gift Lvl 9999 Unlimited Gacha is a must-see and should be on every fan’s watch list this fall!”

God created nine races in the ancient times. Humans were the weakest, most ridiculed race among them. Light, a human boy, was fortunate enough to be invited to join a party of all nine races called the "Assembly of the Races." He was happy being a member for a while, but that was a short dream. His hopes were only to be betrayed by his fellow members at the largest, most heinous dungeon "Abyss." After surviving by himself at the bottom of Abyss, Light learns the true meaning of his gift "Unlimited Gacha." Light will rise from the worst despair to build his own empire of the strongest players. Watch this incredible story of revenge unfold using the one and only gift "Unlimited Gacha!"

Written by Shisui Meikyo and character concept by tef, the light novel series is published by Hobby Japan’s HJ Novels imprint and now totals 12 volumes since its launch in May 2021. The anime adaptation was revealed last November during HJ Novels’ 10th anniversary celebration and will be directed by Katsushi Sakurabi together with series composition by Hiroshi Onogi, character design by Yukie Suzuki, music by Ryo Takahashi and animation by J.C.Staff. The cast of My Gift Lvl 9999 Unlimited Gacha stars Nina Tamaki as Light, Ikumi Hasegawa as Mei, Hana Hishikawa as Nazuna and Shiori Izawa as Aoyuki.

‘Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba Infinity Castle’ Breaking Anime Presale Records, Top Circuits Near $10M In Advance Tickets – Box Office

September this year at the box office isn’t going to be a blockbuster like last year’s when Warner Bros Beetlejuice Beetlejuice snapped up a $111M opening and $294M domestic take, so the industry will have to take respectable openings as they happen instead. Following the $35M+ expected opening of New Line’s The Conjuring: Last Rites, exhibitors have Crunchyroll‘s Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle to look forward to the following weekend on Sept. 12. The movie based on the manga series by Koyoharu Gotouge is racking up record-breaking advance ticket sales for an anime movie since going on sale Friday, estimated to be near $10M for the AMC, Regal and Cinemark combined, per sources.

Separately, Fandango is reporting that they saw the best first-day presales for an anime film of all time, ahead of Funimation’s Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train (2021) and Crunchyroll’s Jujutsu Kaisen 0 (2022). Those movies posted very notable starts for anime pics with Mugen Train debuting to a whopping $21.2M back in late April 2021 as movie theaters were trying to get back on track post Covid. Jujutsu Kaisen 0 wasn’t too shabby with an $18M opening in May 2022. It wouldn’t be a surprise if Infinity Castle emulates or bests those domestic starts.

Infinity Castle will have early screenings in the U.S. for Crunchyroll Mega and Ultimate Fan tiers starting on Sept. 9 at 7 PM local time in Imax on PLFs. So, keep this in mind about those presales figures before forecasting an opening weekend: This is a narrow, devoted fanbase who shows up very early for Demon Slayer. It’s quite possible this movie’s weekend is quite frontloaded. Anime films stateside are also about their opening weekend pop with the audience receding rapidly in subsequent weekends. That’s just their nature. Jujutsu Kaisen 0 ended its domestic run at $34.5M, however, Mugen Train had a great 2.4x multiple for the genre at $49.9M U.S./Canada.

Also, the momentum here for Infinity Castle isn’t shocking for Demon Slayer fans as it’s the first movie that’s part of a trilogy representing the final battle of the popular shonen series from animation studio ufotable. Already, Infinity Castle has collected close to $193M at the international box office, 75% of that coming from Japan. Infinity Castle opened to $17.5M at No. 1 in eight Southeast Asian markets last weekend. Infinity Castle not only surpassed the entire regional lifetime for Mugen Train but also Frozen II as the highest all-time animated opening for this group of markets at current exchange rates. The opening was over twice as large as other blockbuster animated titles Inside Out 2, Super Mario Bros. Movie, Moana 2, and Ne Zha 2.

Blurb for Infinity Castle: The Demon Slayer Corps are drawn into the Infinity Castle, where Tanjiro, Nezuko, and the Hashira face terrifying Upper Rank demons in a desperate fight as the final battle against Muzan Kibutsuji begins.

Infinity Castle will have prints in Japanese with English subtitles and dubbed in English.

Mugen Train currently holds the record as the highest-grossing Japanese anime movie of all time and the highest-grossing Japanese film at the global box office, garnering over a half billion. It currently ranks as the second-highest grossing Japanese anime film in U.S. box office history.

“We are blown away by the sheer excitement for the arrival of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle through the number of tickets sold in its first day,” said Jerramy Hainline, EVP of Fandango. “The overwhelming response is a true testament to the power of the anime community, and we are so proud to help bring anime into theaters so fans can experience it on the big screen.”

‘Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba Infinity Castle’ Building Toward $20M+ Opening – Box Office Early Look

Sony Crunchyroll‘s anime title Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba Infinity Castle hit three week tracking yesterday and the outlook for the Sept. 12 theatrical release stands between a solid $20M-$29M.

The news comes at a time as Sony Pictures Animation/Netflix’s Kpop Demon Hunters Singalong is expected to post a surprise $15M+ opening, potentially unseating New Line’s third weekend of Weapons for No. 1.

Unaided awareness and first choice are strong on Infinity Castle with men under 25. If the pic hits anything north of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train‘s $21.2M opening from 2021, it’s arguably a record start for an anime movie stateside.

We already told you that after tickets went on sale a week ago for Infinity Castle, the top three chains were already reaping around $10M in presales, which in Fandango’s books, is an anime movie advance tickets sales record. The assumption is that most of that money is allocated for the fan screening on Sept. 9 at 7 PM local time in Imax on PLFs. Still that cash will roll up into the movie’s opening weekend.

Infinity Castle is opening after New Line’s post-Labor Day title Conjuring: Last Rites which is expected to do around $35M. The outlook for the September 2025 box office is bleak since there’s no mega-tentpole movie ala years past, i.e. It, Shang-Chi or Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Currently, Infinity Castle is closing in on a foreign take of $200M, a majority of that coming from Japan.

In Infinity Castle, the Demon Slayer Corps are drawn into the Infinity Castle, where Tanjiro, Nezuko, and the Hashira face terrifying Upper Rank demons in a desperate fight as the final battle against Muzan Kibutsuji begins.

Infinity Castle will open against Focus Features’ Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, Bleecker Street’s Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, and the Lionsgate feature take of Stephen King’s The Long Walk.

Mugen Train currently holds the record as the highest-grossing Japanese anime movie of all time and the highest-grossing Japanese film at the worldwide B.O., minting over $500 million. The movie ranks as the second-highest grossing Japanese anime film in U.S. box office history with close to $50M.

SONY PICTURES CLASSICS TO RELEASE MAMORU HOSODA’S ANIMATED FILM ‘SCARLET’ IN NORTH AMERICA

Sony Pictures Releasing International will distribute throughout the rest of the world

The film will have its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival, as well as premieres at the Toronto International Film Festival and the New York Film Festival

NEW YORK, NY (August 25, 2025) – Sony Pictures Classics announced today that they will release SCARLET, from Academy Award®-nominated filmmaker Mamoru Hosoda, in North America. Sony Pictures Releasing International will distribute throughout the rest of the world for Columbia Pictures. The animated film will have its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival, as well as premieres at the Toronto International Film Festival and the New York Film Festival. SCARLET will have a qualifying run this year, followed by an early 2026 release.

From visionary Academy Award®-nominated filmmaker Mamoru Hosoda (MIRAI) comes a powerful, time-bending animated adventure about SCARLET, a medieval-era, sword fighting princess on a dangerous quest to avenge the death of her father. After failing at her mission and finding herself gravely injured in the Otherworld that exists somewhere between life and death, she encounters an idealistic young man from our present day who not only helps her to heal but shows her the possibility of a future free of bitterness and rage. When confronted again by her father's killer, Scarlet faces her most daunting battle: can she break the cycle of hatred and find meaning in life beyond revenge?

“As we witness heartbreaking conflicts around the world, I believe that finding love and choosing to live together in unity is what will lead us towards something better. That’s why I want to share this new film with the world — now more than ever,” said director Mamoru Hosoda.

SCARLET is produced by Yuichiro Saito under Studio CHIZU, the animation studio co-founded by Saito and Hosada, Toshimi Tanio under Nippon TV and Nozomu Takahashi, under Studio CHIZU. Sony Pictures co-produced and co-financed, in addition to Studio CHIZU and Nippon TV.

“A masterful work from a world class filmmaker,” said Sony Pictures Classics.

Box Office: ‘Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle’ Reigns With $33 Million Opening Day — Already the Biggest Debut Ever for Anime

Anime is back on top of the box office, with “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle” earning $33 million across Friday and preview screenings from 3,315 locations. That’s the biggest opening day domestic gross ever for an anime film, crushing the previous $10.9 million high-mark set by “Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero” in 2022. Not only that, it’s also already the biggest opening weekend ever for anime, surging past the $31 million record held by “Pokémon: The First Movie – Mewtwo Strikes Back” since 1999 (though “Mewtwo Strikes Back” debuted on a Wednesday, playing for two full days before the traditional three-day frame).

“Infinity Castle,” the first installment in what is meant to be a series-capping trilogy for the property, is playing in both subtitled and dubbed versions, plus it has a revenue boost from playing premium large format theaters. “Demon Slayer” did $6.4 million domestic in Imax theaters alone on Friday. Reviews are positive for the film and early audiences adore it, with moviegoer survey firm CinemaScore polling a robust “A” grade. But stateside grosses are also just the latest success for the anime epic. “Infinity Castle” has already earned more than $279 million globally, including more than $200 million in its native Japan. There, it still ranks as the No. 1 release eight weeks into release. It has become the country’s third-highest-grossing release of all time.

Sony’s anime distribution banner, Crunchyroll, is setting a new ceiling for anime in North America. Back in 2021, the label delivered one of the industry’s first substantial theatrical performers after COVID lockdowns with “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train.” That movie was a toast for theater owners at a $20 million opening — a number that “Infinity Castle” could triple. After “The Conjuring: Last Rites” surged far above initial projections last weekend with a stunning $84 million debut, the September box office is performing well above the industry’s modest expectations going into the month.

But beyond exhibitors, it’s also a welcome result for Sony itself, which just finished a quiet summer blockbuster season. Anime tends to be front-loaded at the box office, as eager fans flock to the earliest screenings possible, so how the rest of the weekend shakes out depends on Saturday holds. (Current estimates are at $56 million, while some rivals are foreseeing north of $60 million.) “Infinity Castle” could even beat “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” ($56.5 million) to become Sony’s biggest domestic opener in over two years.

Box Office: ‘Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle’ Becomes Biggest Anime Movie Ever With $555 Million, ‘Him’ and ‘Big Bold Beautiful Journey’ Misfire Overseas

[...]

Luckily, Sony is riding high with “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle,” which just became the highest-grossing anime film ever with $555 million globally. The film is backed by Sony-owned Crunchyroll in North America, the United Kingdom and Brazil, as well as Toho and Aniplex in Japan and other Asian markets. “Demon Slayer” topped overseas charts again with $36 million from markets where Sony’s Crunchyroll is handling the rollout. So far, the film has earned a total of $451 million internationally and $104 million domestically. “Infinity Castle” is the first in a planned three-film series about a boy who becomes a demon slayer to avenge his family and find a cure for his sister, who was turned into a demon.
