Second, I went through one giant Scarecrow stage last night and the platforming felt so archaic. It took about 18 tries to get through this one little area. It was very frustrating.
I played until I got to the two Titans. I only bring this up because I think I fought the camera far more than I did the Titans themselves. It made me realize that I never once fought the camera or gave it a moment's notice in Uncharted.
I also finished New Super Mario Bros Wii the other night as well. Awesome game but my initial reaction stands. The only thing keeping it from being a perfect game are the forced, and imprecise, motion controls and lack of classic controller support.

How is Wired any more relevant than EW or Time Magazine? I think they should all be left in personally, but since Wired is not a gaming publication, it should either be included with those other magazines or deleted as well.

I seriously doubt the LA times does...or Entertainment for that matter.

Re: 2009 Game of the Year (GOTY) thread
Marginally...Entertainment was for Uncharted, Time and LA times for CoD.
I was just trying to limit the list to sites that were more or less devoted to gaming who might have put some thought into it.
Once I saw this site, I realized that it didn't make sense to weigh some random newspaper the same as I would an IGN or GI: http://gotypicks.blogspot.com/2009/0...e-of-year.html
I'm not looking to skew the results, just limit the scope.
I think Wired and Yahoo might be next to go. (L4D2 and Uncharted respectively)

Well, I went back to Batman last night and playing it after Uncharted makes it painfully clear how polished Uncharted is by comparison. First Batman should be as nimble and easy to control as Drake but controls like a tank by comparison.

I don't have enough time in NSMB to make a call, but I had fun with the time I played.

I haven't played the Wii NSMB game. It looks very similar to the DS version which is still my favorite DS game, but if it's that same four-year-old game, it's hardly innovative in any way. Besides having four player local multiplayer, is it significantly different from the DS version?

I don't think so, but the multiplayer is pretty cool...and I can't recall another multiplayer platformer, so that is innovation right?
...should probably check with Tracer.

Not that innovation matters for GOTY

Good point. And that was my 2008 GOTY, though it doesn't hold up that well thanks to its frustrating floaty jumping mechanics. I'd imagine that NSMB plays much better as a multiplayer platformer, though from what I'm gathering it's more competitive than cooperative like in LBP.
Though I imagine few actually tried it, Splosion Man was a platformer with a robust co-op mode as well.

Uncharted wins everything it's nominated for at DICE.

Finally started playing Uncharted... Not sure if I would change my vote. Looks great for sure, but the controls are still a bit off for me. Maybe its just because Im so used to playing stuff on my 360.

Naw, it's not the "used to playing stuff on my 360" bit at all -- Uncharted is a great series but it's 8.0 gameplay with a 10.0 presentation. That applies to both.

I'd say UC1 is more like a 7.5 and UC2 is more like a 9 for gameplay. I really enjoyed navigating Nate around in this one, and I especially liked the ability to shoot while hanging. I also found the cover quite a bit less buggy than the first one.

Re: 2009 Game of the Year (GOTY) thread
I agree the 2nd was a better gaming experience, but the gameplay to me wasn't all that different to me, especially once the 2nd half of #2 kicked in. I wasn't really a big fan of the stage setup (navigate 1 room, clear a room of enemies, navigate a room, clear a room of enemies, repeat) in either game, and while the controls are a bit rigid in both games, I guess it felt more acceptable back in '07. #2 felt a little more open while keeping complete linearity which is a neat trick and it was a little less buggy, but it wasn't a huge improvement in that department (to note, I haven't played UC #1 since early 08).
Series is still one of my favorites, regardless. Excellent combination of character, script and locale.

I played both back to back (UC1 for the second time to get the medals and get "ready" and then UC2), and felt the improvements right away. My main complain of the game is that it has the longest "ending" ever. At 85% of the game they could have closed everything and they just dragged and became a chore.

Yeah, I didn't think that last 15% was ever going to end.
