Re: Suspiria - January 2010?
The UK and Italian discs are both minted from the same master. It sounds like during the authoring of the Italian BD, the producers mucked it up even more, and the UK authors tried to back off a bit. The same fundamental problems plague both discs.
Suspiria superfan Michael Mackenzie's guess is that "the problems had not crept in during the restoration itself but rather during the conversion of the colour gamut from the Digital Cinema Initiative master to consumer HD". This would explain why Tovoli was pleased with the transfer he supervised and approved but not the recent home video releases that he's said are "too hot".

in other Argento news:
Arrow Video is releasing Tenebrae, Deep Red and Phenomena is August. Amazon.co.uk has the preorders up and unlike Suspiria I assume they won't be region B locked (fingers crossed)

A post on HTF suggests that some of the three-strip confusion may come from a misleading scene in an Anchor Bay documentary.

Depends who has the rights to them here on the States and if they are allowed to be Region Free. Suspiria wasn't even by Arrow so I'm not sure why you brought it up (aside from the Argento connection)...

Re: Suspiria - January 2010?
Interesting to note, Suspiria is now on Netflix streaming. One key note to point out: it's the R-rated version. I found this out by two key things right when I hit play...
1. The 20th Century Fox logo at the beginning.
2. The running time was 93 minutes, not 98.
I'm honestly surprised it was in widescreen too, especially since there has never been a widescreen release of the edited version.
Of course, I skipped to the death scenes and I can('t) believe how chopped up they are. It honestly ruins the film because they took out one of my favorite camera moves of all time (the panning shot going from the girl hanging to the reveal that her friend got killed by the debris from the attack).

The cut of Suspiria making the rounds on Cinemax-HD was cropped to 1.78:1, though...I seem to remember the credits being letterboxed, but everything else was hacked apart.
