I guess I better get working on this. Thanks for the above Mondo. I'll get the official discussion and list threads up later tonight or tomorrow.

Re: Anyone up for the 1st Annual DVDTalk Criterion Challenge?
Another question: would non-Criterion titles from Criterion directors count? For example, Day For Night is a Francois Truffaut classic that is a Warner release, yet it would not be out of place with other Truffaut titles from Criterion.

I thought you were asking if a Criterion movie on a non-Criterion disc would count. That is obviously a big Yes. As long as the film was at some point released by Criterion, you can watch it in any format. VHS, broadcast TV, laserdisc, public domain DVD, whatever.

So that includes films released by Criterion only on laserdisc like Halloween, King Kong and Dead Presidents? Here is a complete list.

Re: Anyone up for the 1st Annual DVDTalk Criterion Challenge?
I'd be tempted to watch nothing but "No longer Criterions" titles like:
Princess Bride
Graduate
North by Northwest
12 Angry Men
High Noon
Citizen Kane
King Kong (1933)
Blade Runner
Help!
Producers
Adam's Rib
Singing in the Rain
Forbidden Planet
Wizard of Oz
2001
Adventures of Robin Hood
Casablanca
Some Like It Hot
Ghostbusters
Lawrence of Arabia
Annie Hall
Taxi Driver
Sex Lies and Videotape
Raging Bull
Dr. No
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
From Russia With Love
Goldfinger
Here Comes Mr. Jordan
Arsenic and Old Lace
Dr. Stranglelove
Adventures of Baron Munchausen
Akira
Jason and the Argonauts
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Player (Altman)
Bram Stoker's Dracula
Pulp Fiction
Seven
Halloween (Carpenter)
Lolita (Kubrick)
Crimes and Misdemeanors
Supercop
Shine
Crash (Cronenberg)
Boogie Nights
Trainspotting
This is Spinal Tap
Sid & Nancy
Fisher King
Carrie
Nice! I think I've watched all of these in the last 12 months at least once.

Here is a complete list.
I'm still likely to throw a few of these selections into this marathon.
