Rules

Movies/TV shows should be labeled Animation from either imdb.com or allmovie.com. Other labels don't matter as long as there is at least a Animation label from one of those sites. Action/Animation would be fine.

This is the challenge where any and all types of animation is welcome, omputer, hand drawn, puppetry, stop motion, etc. The entire movie/show does not need to be completely animated. Something like Roger Rabbit or a Ray Harryhausen film would generally be allowed.

If anyone has a problem with something someone watches or just wants an opinion on if it's animation or not, ask here.

Animation documentaries are allowed but not DVD featurettes/interviews that are just fluff promo pieces.

As with the other challenges, the lists must be numbered or it won't count.

Watching the movie/show with the commentary can counted as unique items.

Watching multiple versions(theatrical and director's cut) of the same movie/show will also count.

Lists

This year we are counting by running times instead of the standard way of entries. You'll want to list the running time for what you watch, as well as keep a grand total.

Example
You don't have to follow this exact format but as long as you keep a grand running time total, you're fine. I would strongly recommend keeping the running time of what you watch next to it, in case you figure out you messed up with your grand total.

For those that like to hit the unofficial goal of 100, with the new counting system, that would be 6 Days and 6 Hours

I'm half tempted to change the counting on this one to be where anything you watch, within reason, counts as one. I don't think watching a cereal commercial should count as anything, unless you watched a whole lot of them and were keeping track.

I have been picking up lots of Disney movies and Robotech the Macross Saga for this. Will be my 1st animated challenge.

Worth buying simply to make room on your shelves. There were different releases on tape. One set offered two eps. plus their Japanese versions. One set offered 5 eps. per tape.

Planning to try and finish all the PIXAR I haven't watched - there are quite a few including Cars, The Incredibles, and Wall-E.

It's early enough that I want to try something different. Instead of counting the current way, this year I want to instead switch it to counting running times of things. It'll either work great or awful but it does reduce the pain of trying to figure out how much of a fraction of an entry does a 7 minute cartoon count as.

I also probably won't run either of my challenges anymore, since I can't devote the time to hosting them that I should.

Something Weird is also donating prizes and I'll post that stuff soon, along with the list thread.

Can you elaborate on this in more detail? For instance, how long a running time do you need to count a full entry?

Instead of doing something like:
1. The Boy with Green Hair
2. Journey to the Center of the Earth
2.25 Pokeman Season 1 Episode 4

It would look something like:
1 hour 30 minutes - The Boy With Green Hair (90 min)
3 hours 4 minutes - Journey to the Center of the Earth (94 min)
3 hours 27 minutes - Pokeman Season 1 Episode 4 (23 min)

For myself, I'm included the running time of each thing, just in case I mess up my total running time and need to fix it days later when I don't remember how long something was. Now I wouldn't have to waste time finding it just to see how long it was. That part is optional but probably helpful but the new counting system is what I'd like to use for this year.

To someone math-challenged like myself, this seems kind of unwieldy. I'd have to do a lot more adding than I'm comfortable with. And I hate having to use a calculator.

You could turn your 100 hours to 4 days, 4 hours, 96 minutes.

I know the old way was a pain for others when they'd watch lots of shorts and they'd end up not doing any counting of entries since it got to be too much math.

I just ask that we give it the old college try and see how it goes this year.

I've been thinking for a while that the 100 item goal is kinda unrealistic. Yes, I know people reach it, but I know that I (and other people) don't have the time to watch the equivalent of at least 3 movies a day for a month to reach the goal. I think 75 would be more realistic and would still require effort. I know it's not as glamorous as 100. The adding time is not unreasonable, but how about something like this:

90 - The Boy With Green Hair (90 min)
184 - Journey to the Center of the Earth (94 min)
207 - Pokeman Season 1 Episode 4 (23 min)

grand total: 3 hours 45 minutes

A little less typing, easier to keep track of and just divide to total by 60 to get the grand total.

What would be the goal? Say using a 90 minute movie as a baseline, 100 items would be 9000 minutes or 150 hours, 75 items would be 6750 minutes or 112.50 hours.

Also, maybe the animation challenge list should be more tv oriented, since there's way more animation for tv than theatrical animation.

That works too, except there's still a little more work than just dividing the total by 60. Your grand total should actually be 3 hours 27 minutes.

Checklist isn't finalized yet. I'll work on a rough draft this week.

Yeah, I was wondering how that math worked. He divided by 60 and got 3.45, the 45 being 100ths of an hour, not 60ths of an hour. So 27 minutes instead of 45.

Understandable, and I don't think there's anything wrong with just going with a grand total since the numbers look better anyway. I'm with you on the difficulty of reaching 100--I think I've only done it for one or two challenges, and never when a two-hour movie was need to count as one. Fine with me for trying the new Peepers system.
