Maybe redeem one card and see what happens? Worst case you have nine days to redeem, while likely case sounds like one year.

Good idea, thanks David. Now if only I can find that box...

And thanks Decker. I feel you on the Blockbuster gift card, I've been burned several times in expiring cards/bankruptcy. I need to learn to use those things quickly.

Why doesn't MS (or Apple, Sony, etc.) sell an item that states it has 500 GBs, then have 650 GBs of memory so you actually get what they are stating they are selling? It's almost a bait & switch tactic.

In other news, I really like that you can run your cable thru the X1. It's especially good since my kid's TV only has two HDMI spots.

Does the PS4 have that option as well?
That's how all electronics are sold basically. I doubt it will change anytime soon, I don't know anyone who sells a unit advertising X GB and then gives you that much as usable space, outside of being empty hard drives for backups and such.

And no, the PS4 does not let you run your cable through the system.

Piles in a box you can't find? I'm sure you already know this, but methinks your collecting habit is really, really bad

So the USB OTA add-on works extremely well (I picked up a standard one for $10 more than the MS one because I'm impatient). Auto downloads channel listings and icons, etc; Turns the PITA aspect of OTA into a non-issue. I have a real antenna coming in tomorrow, the current one I have sucks.

I think if I got the OTA tuner I'd need to pony up for a powered antenna. The one I have now requires too much constant management to get a good signal.

I ordered one of the AmazonBasic 35 mile ones that you mount by/on your window. I do hope they implement full DVR support, the ability to rewind/ff works well.

Another question for you seasoned X1 owners:

Do you keep your X1 in Instant On mode or Energy Savings mode? Have any of you tried both? Do you see any difference in performance or how it handles? Money savings?

Also, if you leave it in Instant On mode, do you hit the xbox button to shut the system off or should you just let it run? If you hit that button, does it stay in Instant On mode?

I leave mine in instant on because I use it with my cable box and the ability to remote download / auto download patches is nice. Not sure why you'd shut it off entirely, that might save you $1 over the course of a year.

I use voice commands via the Kinect. I have no idea on mode. I just know I walk into the room and say "Xbox, on" and it turns on then logs me (or my daughter in) via face recognition. Same with turning it off. "Xbox, turn off... yes."

The default "off" mode is the instant on / rest mode.

Okay. Thanks. I figured it would be much more energy saved than just a buck. I agree about the auto downloads on updates and patches and we did hook my son's cable connection through it as well.

We did not get a Kinect so no voice commands or any of that nonsense. I am glad to see Kinect die the awful death it has. For a peripheral to have so much potential and to see it wasted consistently. I was its biggest cheerleader originally but now it just needs to go away for good.

It was funny when I was looking up info on the X1 and seeing old posts on different forums and columns stating that the X1 would NEVER be sold without the Kinect. We saw how long that lasted.

Yeah I was wrong about that, it's a good bit more. The Xbox One (w/ Kinect which apparently eats up a bit more due to Voice recognition) is 233kWh/y in standby. So that comes out to almost $28/year.

There's no kWh/y listing for it w/o Kinect.

I agree the Kinect games have been colossal disappointments. The ease of voice commands though for Netflix and such have integrated into my life/routine enough I would be bummed to see that go away.

Then again, I also have an Amazon Echo on order. Maybe i just like talking to machines.

The arena mode is pretty fun. it's not the traditional 3 lane setup. Although it has that as well.
