I've been thinking about it a lot. I mean... it's been almost a full year. I'm starting to think that the issue isn't the extension cord itself, but rather, the fact that maybe the Kinect won't work properly if it's facing a projector? Is this possible? In my setup, if I stand up, my head is just slightly below the height of the projector. Someone taller would be at the same height. Would this somehow affect the functionality of the device, having what amounts to a bright light facing directly at the cameras? I'm thinking it might...
Still, for those without projectors, but with media cabinets, an extension is still necessary... but if I'm right about the projector thing, then that could be why they're holding off on it entirely.
Maybe.
Still, I want an extension cable. Now.

I don't anymore. It's clear that Kinect isn't working as a gaming concept anyway and it won't be a thing widely used in the future. I wouldn't mind spending $50-$60 on the cable, but then I'd have to have my A/V guy come out to my house, install it through the wall and somehow find space for it above or on top of my wall-mounted TV? Just so I can play Fantasia? No thanks.

I had the original Kinect set up with a projector and it worked just fine. Also had the extension cord. I'd love to do the same setup for this. I think it comes down to Microsoft's weird-ass views about the console. That people will all have it right next to their TV because why wouldn't they? Maybe there is also something that prohibits it from sending a signal a longer distance. Though that should be fixable.

I actually just rigged mine last night to turn on the projector and the receiver, so that's cool. Wish it could change inputs too but that would actually be a useful feature.
Also tried to get the 3D to work - in the research I did, my projector should support it and the receiver should pass it through. But the Xbox was being weird about selecting the "enable 3D" box and I don't know if it's saving my changes. After 20 minutes I decided it wasn't worth it, which is the basic timeline of 3D in general condensed down a bit

EA Access, the subscription service from Electronic Arts that's currently exclusive to Xbox One owners, will add Need For Speed Rivals to the list of its Vault games later in September that can be played in full for an overall fee of $4.99 per month, or $29.99 per year.
The open world racing game, first launched in November 2013 for the Xbox One, will join the previous games in the Vault; Battlefield 4, FIFA 14, Peggle 2, and Madden NFL 25. In addition, EA Access subscribers will be able to play free six hour demos of two upcoming EA Sports games, NHL 15 and FIFA 15, five days before the full versions of the games go on sale. Players of the demos will get 10 percent off the price of the full games and their Xbox Live Achievements and progress in the demos will carry over to the full game.
Finally, EA Access will be available to Xbox One owners in 19 more countries in September including Brazil, Netherlands, UAE and Nordic countries.

Nice. Knew it had to be coming soon, but not that soon.

So they are sticking with the 6 hour thing for Fifa too, huh? Going to cancel the autorenew when I get home this afternoon. Really wish I would have just waited instead of jumping in right away, because knowing what I do now I wouldn't have even bothered with it at all.

Wasn't that kind of the point with some of those sports games? To give you the prior year for free and a time limited chunk of the new version? If they were giving the 2015 versions for free how would they make any money off this program?

I wasn't expecting the current sports games for free. All I wanted/expected was to be able to play Fifa a few days early for as much as I wanted like I have done the past 2 years with their Season Ticket program. That would have been worth $30 a year to me. Oh well, lesson learned.

So it'd be like a subscription for pre-orders to play the games a few days early?

That would be the appeal for me, but I imagine I would be in the minority on that. I think the vault (which I don't care about) would be the appeal for most people.

Minecraft is out Friday for $5 if you owned it on 360! That was fast once it entered certification. PS4 is still not ready and got kicked out once already, wonder what the hell the deal is. I'll grab it again for sure for only $5.

To recap - a buggy game was cleaned up, was submitted / resubmitted for certification on various platforms around the same time, is being released around the same time, and has some really consumer-friendly bells and whistles on multiple platforms. Scandal!
I don't understand console fanboys.

Yeah I wish they wouldn't rush this thing. But it was out long before it was ever even a final version, IIRC.

4J Studios basically said the PS4 version was buggy and needed additional attention. It was resubmitted to Sony on/around August 26th and to Microsoft on/around August 29th, according to their Twitter feed. They posted about dealing with Xbox One and Vita bugs after the PS4 cert failed. It sure does sound like it wasn't ready for prime time, regardless of platform. For all we know, the exact same showstopping bug(s) that kept it from passing PS4 certification affected the not-then-submitted Xbox One version too. The French PlayStation Twitter feed said it's coming to the PS4 this week as well, with a similar $5 upgrade and cross-saving/DLC with Vita and PS3. It looks like Sony may get it today or tomorrow. (HEADSTART DAGGER!!!!11)

Back to real stuff: They say ALL DLC will transfer over so it looks like I'm buying the Halo pack finally!

I own and support basically everything (3DS, Vita, Wii U, Xbox One, PS4, PC, all the last gen stuff, blah blah blah). I don't care about Minecraft and don't really get into Xbox One vs. PS4 arguments/dick-waving. I've even agreed with you about things like Sony's non-existent first party slate for the rest of the year. If you don't see the snide, fanboy-ish tone in your post, I really don't know what to tell you. Maybe it's just my reading of what you wrote, but I doubt it.

I'm pretty sure I have not played my Xbox One since last December. I turn it on once and a while for updates but keep waiting for Minecraft.

It is enormously popular with the younger crowd. I know my daughter and all her friends (5th grade) play it and talk about it constantly. I also hear it discussed by multiple students every single day at the high school where I teach.
On a daily basis I hear more about Minecraft from the under 18 crowd than any single other video game.

If nothing else, the game's music in the background is very conducive to napping on the couch.
