re: The PlayStation 4 / PS4 Thread: Still Going Strong
Have guys tried the "rebuild database" function?
Apparently, the rebuild database function is supposed to be sorta like a disc de-fragmenter, and might make games that stutter run smoothly again.
Starting the PS4 in Safe Mode
Turn off the PlayStation 4 by pressing the power button on the front panel. The power indicator will blink for a few moments before turning off.
Once the PlayStation 4 is off, press and hold the power button. Release it after you've heard two beeps: one when you initially press, and another 7 seconds later.
Connect the DualShock 4 controller with the provided USB cable and press the PS button on the controller.
Safe Mode Options
The following options are available in Safe Mode:
Restart System - Ends Safe Mode and restarts the PlayStation 4 normally.
Change Resolution - Changes the screen resolution to 480p when the PlayStation 4 is restarted.
Update System Software - Allows the PlayStation 4 to update the system software via Internet, USB Drive, or Disc.
Restore Default Settings - Restores the PlayStation 4 to the default factory settings.
Rebuild Database - Scans the drive and creates a new database of all content.
This operation may take a long time depending on the type and number of data items.
Initialize PS4 - IMPORTANT: All data and settings will be lost by performing this step.
Deletes all user data and restores the PS4 as if it just came out of the box. This option is the same as [Initialize PS4 ] in the (Settings) menu. System software (firmware) is not deleted.
Initialize PS4 (Reinstall System Software) - IMPORTANT: Deletes all information on the HDD, including the System Software. Click here to download the reinstallation version of PS4 system software.

I'm forced to rebuild if I have my PS4 in Rest and the power goes out. I haven't noticed a big difference.

I still don't understand why any save file needs to be over 10mb or so. The save files that are 50mb up into the hundreds are absurd. They should give us a hell of a lot more cloud space if they are going to allow those type of save files to exist.

I've shut auto upload off for a number of games.
Trials Fusion had a save of over 100MB, Drive Club was over 300MB because of ghosts and replay that it saved, NBA2K14 created a new file everytime it saved, Witcher 3 shows me 6 save files, 1 manual, 2 auto save, anand 3 checkpoint files.

I couldn't even figure out a way to tell how much cloud storage space I have left... and I wasn't sure if I had just run out of space, or if the connection problems to PSN was causing the error message.

From Settings you can Manage Storage and see what's on the Cloud. From there, just add up the MBs. Once you hit 1000, that's all she wrote (though if you delete some of the big ones like Driveclub and Apotheon, you'll likely free up enough to make do for a while).

I couldn't figure it out either but I guess I wax maxed because I had several games with 100mb+ saves. Deleted a bunch of stuff so I should be good now.

Wait, do PS3 saves have a different quota?

The save files are MUCH smaller on the PS3. I still haven't maxed them out and I have zillions of PS3 game saves (though not Skyrim, which I understand can be a bit of a space hog)

Damn, I JUST bought MGS GZ for $10 on clearance last month. Oh well, I guess it will come in handy once Konami removes the game from the server

Yeah, this is not the first time I've been bit by a "cheap" PSN sale only to have the game be even cheaper or free within a month or two...

I saw Apotheon's game save was over 300mb. Really? Isn't that about a fourth of the memory the total game takes up? This is absurd and Sony really has to put the hammer down on these developers about not using a ridiculous amount of space for one game's save. I was backing up my saves a couple of days ago to swap in a 2tb drive and this particular game's save took a couple of minutes to backup and that should not be the case.

1 TB retail model incoming? http://kotaku.com/sony-just-register...n-4-1708394456
It also appears that the PS4 is finally getting universal remote support.

Apparently the hub-based Harmony remotes can now control the PS4, but cannot power it on.
Still, a step in the right direction.
