Re: Say Hello to the Nintendo 2DS!

I'm not sure that it will get me to buy one, but I love it.

The biggest upside, I would think, is the placement of the d-pad and analog nub. Looks MUCH more comfortable in terms of weight and how it sits in your hand.

Re: Say Hello to the Nintendo 2DS!

I like it as well. Ill probably grab one. I never turn the 3D on.

Wonder if Nintendo will discontinue the normal 3DS. Three SKUs is sorta crazy.

Yeah...!

I never, never, never use the 3D on my 3DS anymore. I did when I first bought it, but coming back after the better part of a year of the 3DS collecting dust, the 3D was kind of painful to look at for any extended period of time, and the severe hit in battery life wasn't worth it.

Re: Say Hello to the Nintendo 2DS!

This already exists. It's called a Nintendo DS. It came out 9 years ago.

I really think all the revisions are ridiculous.
DS - 2004
DS Lite - 2006
DSi - 2008
DSi XL - 2009
3DS - 2011
3DS XL - 2012
2DS - 2013

I miss any?

Re: Say Hello to the Nintendo 2DS!

Wonder if the design will boost a bigger battery life since its no longer a clamshell?

Wish it was Purple

Re: Say Hello to the Nintendo 2DS!

Watching the IGN impressions video, it's kind of wedge shaped, like a doorstop.

They confirm what I suspected, that N is planning on using it to target the under-7 crowd who they don't want gaming in 3D

Hey, I don't think it looks too great either, but let's not resort to insults. We shouldn't let it drive a wedge in our friendship... oh wait, too late!

Since I don't travel and would only want it play a few exclusives, the ugliness doesn't bother me too much either. Although it certainly does look like a kid's toy.

Re: Say Hello to the Nintendo 2DS!

Not only does it look hideous, but it looks like it would not be fun to actually handle. The thin part is at the bottom, which means it's top heavy. On every other DS, the top screen is the thinnest part, which puts the weight and center of balance in the bottom portion, where your hands are.

I don't know, some of the previews have said that it's more comfortable...

No, hands are middle to top, look at the button and pad placements.

Re: Say Hello to the Nintendo 2DS!

My biggest disappointment is that it doesn't include the right analog stick that's so useful for Monster Hunter and Resident Evil Revelations. I thought (or at least hoped) that redesigns of the system would build that in. I hope it's just because this is meant to be a cheap version and that the real 3DS will get it in the future.

Re: Say Hello to the Nintendo 2DS!

I'm amazed by Nintendo over the past 4 years. It's like they got freaked out by retaking a leadership position in sales and are doing everything they can to shrink while maintaining the appearance of trying to succeed. This thing may do slightly better than the virtual boy.

Can you imagine the backlash if this had the two analog sticks before a 3DS redesign put it in? but like you, I was hoping that the XL would have introduced the second stick; at this point there's going to be absolutely no adoption for that peripheral, which they barely initiated selling over here anyway (and some of the games that do adopt it, like Kid Icarus, don't make use of it).

I think it'll do well. There are a lot of people that never upgraded because all they play is Pokemon. I have a few friends that are obsessed with those games, that's all they ever play on any portables. I can almost guarantee at least one of them will buy this and th new games on launch day.

Re: Say Hello to the Nintendo 2DS!

I think it'll sell fine. Looks durable. I'd rather have my kid play on that ugly-ass thing for $130 than have him smear up and potentially drop my $600 iPad.
Besides, this gets Nintendo out of the last generation for good without having to be in the awkward position of trying to sell games to children on a system that they think might damage their eyesight.

I'm gonna wait for the 4DS. I haven't been thinking 4th dimensionally enough lately, and that would be the perfect solution.

You already have the 4DS, when it finally releases is irrelevant.

Re: Say Hello to the Nintendo 2DS!

weird. oddly, i'd consider buying one of these for my son in a year or so since all the good games are coming out on 3ds now. i think the shape and design of it are weird, but i wouldn't have to hold it or play it, so whatever.

Re: Say Hello to the Nintendo 2DS!

I love how gamers go crazy over the dumbest things. Nintendo isn't holding a gun to your head forcing you to buy it. The person that said it's gonna flop i think Nintendo probably did market research/ surveys to see how many people feel the 3-D is an important feature to have and how many parents complained their younger kids can't play it. Nintendo see's a group sizeable enough to make this a profitable sku.
