Re: Alan Wake

I finished this last night. The wife and I played an episode a day together. It was alot of fun and we enjoyed it.

I figure I'll wait until they have a few more DLC episodes before I pick the game up for good.

Re: Alan Wake

There's only the two announced thus far, and I imagine that will be it to bridge the gap to the sequel.

You think there will be a sequel? You're more of an optimist than I am. Sadly, the game didn't sell very well.

Re: Alan Wake

Finally nabbed the final achievement I needed last night, for playing through The Signal without dying. It took about 5 attempts, but I didn't mind because I enjoy this game so much.

I also have great hopes for a sequel.

Re: Alan Wake

I played through episode one last night. Pretty good, but the controls (at least the camera) feels really loose. I'm sure I'll get more used to it.

I started it up after the first kid went to bed and the second was in the shower. She got out and was excited I was finally starting it and wanted to watch. During the ferry scene in the beginning she called it that Alice would die and then really didn't like the scenes with the house on the lake. Then it was time for sweet dreams

Obviously I played more after she went to bed and I really like that you can go and rewatch all the cinematics later, even if some of the story will be missing, I think it'll be enough.

I'm sure there will be a sequel, but we probably won't see it until the Xbox 720.

Re: Alan Wake

How many EPISODES is the game? I finally played through the 1st episode last night. I thought it was decent...not great, but decent.

6, I believe. They all seem extraordinarily long too. I think Chapter 3 could have been broken up into 2 all by itself.

Re: Alan Wake

I remember hearing that which is why I decided to stop after just the first last night because I didn't want to find myself up until 1am.

Re: Alan Wake

Ok...6 does not seem bad, although if they are really that long, that is a bit of a turn off. I believe Ep.1 took me about an hour.

Re: Alan Wake

6 is correct, Ep 3 is the longest, the others are just around an hour. The last is fairly short.

Re: Alan Wake

Ok, protecting the stage in Level 4 was one of the coolest events for me in video game history. The music, the sound effects, the hectic nature of it all was completely awesome! I died around 6 times before finally getting past that part but at no point was I frustrated.

I admit it's cool, but it's also very similar to a section in L4D2.

Yeah, I was thinking exactly the same thing when I played it. It was basically the same thing without the midnight riders song blasting in the background.

Re: Alan Wake

But for those of us who didn't play L4D 1 or 2, it was an awesome experience

It was an awesome experience for some of us who did play L4D 1 and 2, and superior to either of those games for a number of reasons.

Word!

Don't you HAVE to play every game though in order to be an authority figure here?

Picked the game up today for $39.98 at Walmart, YMMV.

Re: Alan Wake

So I just finished Ep3 and I figure I'm a little more than halfway through and now I'm looking towards the step after completion.

Would you all recommend playing again through Nightmare to get the missing manuscript pages and the "full story" or just go straight into The Signal?

Also, how difficult is Nightmare compared to Normal? I don't die a lot, but I don't find it particularly easy to get through any of the sections thanks to the controls, limited ammo, and limited field of vision.

I didn't bother to go back through. Also, I found it became much more difficult in episodes 4/5 with regards to ammo, light and enemies. On a few occassions after dying I'd just have to book it to the next light source.

Yes to Nightmare playthrough before The Signal. It's quite challenging, but not impossible. Definitely increases the tension a lot, and as stated above, you'll find yourself in "run like hell!" mode on a regular basis.

The Nightmare manuscript pages are generally right on the path in front of you so you don't have to explore much in that mode -- thank you Remedy for not being bastards!

Thanks, Alan. I just took the morning off to play through Ep4 and holy shit was that awesome! Where's that Old Gods of Asgard in Rock Band petition again?

Re: Alan Wake

Ok, I finished EP 2 last night....I'm growing a bit frustrated by the game now. Not sure if I have it in me to finish it. Glad I got it for $10 at some point.

My main concern is I want to run at times, so I hold down LB, but if a TAKEN is chasing me, WAKE will duck and slow down. I got frustrated. I wonder if I have it in me to finish. I figure I logged about 2.5 hours into the game to finish the 1st 2 episodes.
