If Sony or Microsoft could manufacture a system that was actually of high quality, I would consider buying a 360 or PS3. As it stands, both of them create crap consoles. My original XBOX, that I hardly played, just went out. Meanwhile, every Nintendo system I've purchased, and I own most of them save for the gb pocket and ds phat, are all playing perfectly.
I just wish Sony and Microsoft had quality control as good as Nintendo.

1. Live
2. Achievements
3. Controller (depending on the game, it certainly works against them for anything using the pad)
4. 360 version is usually the same or better. I can't remember many games where the release dates on the consoles were the same, where the PS3 version was superior (barring exclusive content). And this is STILL happening... for instance, on the latest Smackdown vs. Raw game, the CAW has less layers on the PS3, and the resolution is less.
5. Momentum. This is most affected by the friend factor. Which version of a fighting game am I going to get, if I know 20 people that will buy the game on the 360 and only 2 with PS3s?
6. You don't HAVE to install to a HDD on the 360. It's inconceivable to me that something like a Naruto game forces gigs of data to be installed, and still has load times. Blu-Ray is to blame, I guess, but I cannot believe that they gimped games on the system because of it.
The PS2s install base, and the lack of a lot of online playing in the last generation, allowed Sony to prosper with 3rd party titles even when the Xbox versions were better. The exact opposite has happened here. And while the PS3 has gotten some decent exclusives recently, the number of 360 exclusives just seems that much greater. I really do want to see a game on the PS3 that is just in every way superior to the 360 version.

Reports of PS3 problems have mainly centered on the blu-ray drive failing. I have sent my launch Wii in for repairs twice now, both times it was the dvd drive.

I paid $450 for my first PS2, $400 for my PS3. Obviously you fellas complaining about the price of the PS3 weren't around in the 80's when some of us paid $800 for Hi-Fi VCRs.

Surprised this hasn't made it's way here yet:
Kaz Hirai says 360 lacks longevity, won't top PS3
Kaz Hirai says 360 lacks longevity, won't top PS3
Hirai recently told Official PlayStation Magazine that in order to describe the 360, he needed a single word that meant "lacks longevity."
But even that semi-burn wasn't enough to appease the Hiraicane's appetite for destruction. He added, "Unless things go really bad, there's no way that at the end of a life cycle our competition is going to have a higher install base."

Lack of success certainly hasn't humbled them.

The PS2's were $600(Canadian) at launch, with many being sold privately for ~$1000 the first Christmas due to a shortage/manufactoring delay. I bot mine the following summer when they had dropped to $450 at Wal-mart, I believe it was the summer of '01.

This sounds like an old hardware company that’s comfortable with its market position. That complacent attitude is out of touch with where the industry and consumer is today. This generation won’t be won over just hardware specs, but who can out-innovate when it comes to online and software. This is the kind of stuff that’s in our DNA, and frankly moves the console war onto our home court.
I’m confident we will outsell the PS3 throughout the entire generation by providing more innovation and building the best and broadest games library while growing our entertainment experiences on the leading online network. With a U.S. install base lead now of more than 7 million units (according to NPD), I can’t imagine any scenario where the PS3 can catch up with us. In fact, even if you doubled the current PS3 sales and Xbox 360 remained flat, they couldn’t close the gap until 2014.

After all of the issues I've had with my various Xbox 360's (now completely out of warranty even if it RROD again) if I had the money to burn and it died on me, I'd probably get the PS3 for the Blu Ray, gaming, and of course:Spite!

Basically, there are two kinds of gamers: Casual and serious. Casual gamers (myself) enjoy the novelty of the Wii. Serious gamers (everyone else on this forum) have identified the 360 as the superior console. The PS3 is too expensive for casual gamers, and not fast enough/powerful enough for serious gamers. Take away the now-unimpressive novelty of being a Blu-ray player and what do you have?
