So I want to play a Resident Evil game...
But which one do I buy first? Is there any particular order in which to play them or are they fairly all the same thing? I own a PS2 and GC.

Play them in order
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/se...019927-4795321
Get 0-3 on the GCN, then Veronica on PS2, 4 comes out sometime in the future for GCN also. But yeah, start with 0, why not...

I'm so ticked about the GC ports of RE 2 and 3. Capcom intially said they would be $19.99 each, then they raise it to $29.99, now $39.99. Not that it matters, but they have lost a few sales to my friends and I.
Anyway, play them in order.

I had the most fun with RE2, but that might be due to the fact that it was the only one that I could finish, couldn't get myself to face the giant spiders in the other games

I'd pick them up for the GC that you have (and CV on the PS2). I'd play them in the order released (i.e. don't play RE0 first, but rather the RE remake on the GC first, then 2, then 3, then 0 and pick up 4 when it comes out... )

When I was playing Code Veronica, I got to the scene with the spiders, ran in saw them, freaked, ran out, turned off system. 1 Month later, I decide I want to beat this game, I load it up, get the girl (Chris' sister... don't remeber her name) her strongest weapons, get hyped up, run in and blast the 2 giant spiders I see. I'm feeling quite happy about myself but then I realized that there was one crawling around

Senior year in college ( Davidson 1997) I decided to play RE1 on the PSone all the way through in front of a few people who'd never seen it before, including my new girlfriend. Needless to say, everyone was hooked: big screen TV, lights out, playing midnight to 6 AM... When the hunter first appears, (with the cinema scene following its as it hunts you) it jumps and gives off a shriek and takes a swipe at me, and my girlfriend lets out a blood curdling scream and dives over the bar in the living room like someone just dropped a live grenade.
funniest thing I've ever seen.

Capcom had to raise the prices because of Nintendo's licensing costs for the game. Sucks huh. They'll eventually go on sale for $20, but most likely at the cost of retailers who'll have to dump the game due to low sales. Why pay that much for a 4 year old game that has no improvements?
The original RE was great. IMO, no other game matched it's scaryness.
RE2 was more fun to play because there were less puzzles and more blowing away zombies.
RE3 had a flawed gameplay engine - the dodge manuever just didn't work - and the game was too hard given the control scheme.
CV was the best in the series, played the best and had the least amount of senseless jewel-seeking puzzles.
REmake just didn't cut it, IMO. It was pretty but it's just a graphical update to a 6 year old game.

But cmon, who doesnt want to spend an hour of their life looking for little CG jewels And lets not forget the little CG keys you must also find. That's my main problem with RE games, I think some of the puzzles are just annoying.
