Re: Marvel's Iron Fist (Netflix) -- Season 1 Discussion Thread -- premieres 3/17/17
I finished the show today and enjoyed quite a bit. Danny Rand does not have a brawler kind of a style or brute force style like Daredevil or any of the other Netflix Marvel characters have. He has finesse. I did like how some of the hits used leverage instead of direct contact. My favorite fight was the drunken master fight. Ward redeemed himself, but since he was dude from Banshee I gave him a pass.
I'm looking forward to season two, but I guess we're going to get The Defenders first. Time to start on Luke Cage and catch up. So far Daredevil is my favorite, with Iron Fist in #2. Oh, and Madame Gao is awesome.

Just finished this last night. Overall, I liked it better than Luke Cage - which just got unbelievably repetitive and was a slog to finish.
Cage had better acting overall than Iron Fist - but that didn't make up for lack of energy/excitement in Cage.
I didn't think the fight scenes were that bad - it would have been boring to see IF kicking everyone's ass. But... he really should have made quick work of someone like Howard Meachum (so he trained in his apartment - so what? Danny is supposed to be a Kung Fu master). I thought the team-up fight scenes with Davos were pretty good.
My main complaint throughout the entire series is just how naive and whiny Rand is. I know, i know, they were portraying it like he was still an emotional 10-year-old. But i feel like another actor could have delivered it better/more convincingly.
But i'd say it's above Luke Cage, but below Daredevil 1/2, and Jessica Jones.

Outside of the first Daredevil season, opinions on Netflix's Marvel shows are all over the place. I'm not sure I've seen the same set of rankings twice.

I binged it over the weekend. The only thing that really annoyed me was how Claire kept referencing knowing DD without ever thinking "Hey I totally know a guy that can help you with The Hand."

Ok, I have a question. I just started watching this. At the end of episode 4, he busts out of the mental hospital. Now on episode 5 and Danny is working at Rand, in a suit. Did I miss something? I am hoping it is addressed in the episode I'm watching right now, but it seems like a whole bunch of shit got skipped over and it makes zero sense. Like there was an episode in between.
Nevermind. I see what happened. I thought I watched episode 4, but I hadn't. Looks like I missed two episodes. For some reason Netflix showed I had watched 3 and 4. Makes sense why nothing made sense.

Scott Buck out as Iron Fist showrunner.
They hired one of the writers of Sleepy Hollow and Falling Skies to be the new showrunner.

I hope with more time to film that they'll be able to fix all the issues with the first season.

Exactly. I don't see the need to recast Finn in the role. Despite some people complaining about this physical build, I thought he was fine in general if it wasn't for the poor writing/story and seemingly no time to train for the fight sequences.

The new showrunner of Iron Fist is named Raven Metzner.
Most notable credit: EP/Writer on Sleepy Hollow. Worked on the show the entire 4 season run.

I'm pretty out of the loop with television apparently. I haven't seen anything he's worked on.
Finn didn't bother me, outside of his obvious lack of training. Maybe his excessive naivete, but I'm guessing that's due to the writing itself.

While I thought Finn Jones was a pretty terrible choice for this role, my disdain for recasts prevents me from supporting that idea. I feel what's done is done and they just need to go with it. While I felt this and Luke Cage were the weakest of the Defenders shows, I'm glad they replaced the showrunner. Hopefully, Season 2 will be an improvement over the first.

Maybe the writing was part of it, but Finn really was terrible.
Combination of what some people here called naivete (which I think was really nice, because I would call it him acting like a little 5 year old girl), absolutely terrible showcase of athletic ability, and if you're going to be the character, a bit of working out would be nice (not saying you need to have muscles, but at least tone up).
I really wouldn't mind a recast, - at this point the character couldnt get any worse.
