I think one of these super-heroes has to pay to send Claire to med school so she can full on doctor these sonsabitches.

I finished the season last night. Very good, just not quite as good as Daredevil IMO. I thought it was cool that they are already integrating the universes when they introduced Claire. I was hoping for a cameo when she said she could have "her friend" help Jessica with Kilgrave.

Anyway, looking forward to another season.

I really liked this show. The pacing and music were great, helping to set it apart from other shows. Kilgrave was awesome. I liked how some of his commands were given a workaround due to technicalities, kind of like in Wishmaster (although those went the opposite way, giving bad results).

The ending with Kilgrave
Spoiler:
getting killed, what a bummer. I really liked him, aside from his motivations.

Re: Marvel's Jessica Jones (Netflix) - Season 1 Discussion Thread - 11/20/15

I just finished reading a recent reprinting of "Alias", and I was surprised what a minor chapter "The Purple Man" was in the series. It was essentially a two or three issue arc, focusing more on what he did to Jessica when she a costumed superhero. Brian Bendis's take on the character was that he was speaking as if he was aware that he and Jessica were characters in a comic book. The series dropped that notion but really took advantage of his powers to really turn him in to a formidable character, creating a really dark storyline. Overall, this is a series that so far has exceeded the source material.

I enjoyed the series, but not as much as DD. I think there were a few issues with the side characters. Like they kept bashing the viewer in the face with the lawyer's divorce stuff to the point where it was way beyond obvious that it would have a major effect on the storyline. I think the payoff would have been better if it wasn't so telegraphed. Also Simpson going full psycho and killing Detective Clemens seemed to come out of nowhere. I realize he was on pills but that's a weak justification for such a radical change.

Finally fished the season this weekend. I agree with many of the comments here. I found it compelling overall, if a little uneven. The final showdown and defeat of Kilgrave was a little anti-climactic. I actually thought the most intense sequence of the whole thing was when Kilgrave was in the hermetically-sealed room and Jessica brought in his parents. I think the season could have been tightened down to 10 episodes and would have been better, but my quibbles are ultimately minor.

Yep, agree. Everything about that entire sequence was great, especially the "put a bullet in your skull, patsy!" line, and how she just IMMEDIATELY brought the gun up and started pulling the trigger. that scene has just stuck with me.

I, too, was disappointed that they broke the tension they'd built up with Killgrave in the room and then tried to recover it (while limiting the use of Tennant) in the last episode. Overall, though, it worked.

The more I think about it, the more I feel like that could have made for a great season finale, if they wanted to extend Kilgrave's presence on the series beyond a single season. There was a lot of great build-up, the sequence was super intense and at the end of it you get:
Spoiler:
the realization that Jessica is immune to his control now.

The remaining episodes felt a little like mere wheel-spinning and the actual finale couldn't top the awesomeness of the CDC scene.

Re: Marvel's Jessica Jones (Netflix) - Season 1 Discussion Thread - 11/20/15

Finally finished this recently in order to start watching Luke Cage. Honestly I didn't like it very much. The cast was great with Tenant stealing the show. But it just felt like it went on forever and was dragging on and on. They only had about seven episodes worth of story and six episodes dragging it out. I was also disappointed with Carris Ann Moss' payoff. I really hated that character towards the end and would have either had be killed off or jailed.

Overall though this is nowhere near as entertaining as Daredevil even with some of my problems in DD season 2.

Something like that doesn't matter much to me, as long as the series is good I don't really care about the gender of the director any more then I thought Captain Marvel needed a female director.

While I agree with you, I like this because it means we won't be hearing about how Netflix doesn't hire women directors.

I think that just sounds pandering. I don't give a fuck if they got dick or a pussy on their body. I just want them to do the goddamn fucking job.

I care and I think this is great. Hollywood keeps saying "oh we can't find female directors" and Ava DuVernay proved with "Queen Sugar" that female directors are available and they can create some kickass television. Bravo to Jessica Jones and I can't wait for season two.

There are some really good female TV directors out there.

Lesli Linka Glatter (multiple Emmy nominee), Michelle MacLaren (mostly known for Breaking Bad) and Roxann Dawson (former actress) just to name a few. I'm sure one of them if not all will get hired to direct an episode of season 2.

For me, Tenant carried season 1. I just hope that Jessica is somewhat likable this season otherwise I won't be able to make it through it.

Tenant was so good. Going to miss him. Most memorable comic book villain performance in a long time for me.

Yeah, Tennant was my favourite, with D'Onofrio a close second.

Tennant will be in season 2... but no idea how extensively. EW confirmed this awhile ago.

Thanks for the clarification!
