No Red John in Limitless. That alone makes it worth checking out.

Well, I was comparing season one to season one, when that plot line was still interesting. I'm sure this show will latch into some long-running mystery, too. These CBS shows can't seem to help themselves.

The basic concept has some potential, which disappoints me they've cast Jennifer Carpenter as the female lead. I've never liked one of her performances. I got a Person of Interest vibe from this show mixed with a little Elementary.
Agree on Carpenter, it's like every moment she is on screen I'm aware she's an actress delivering lines and not the character she is portraying. She never seems natural.

There's an aspect of fantasy fulfillment with both the movie and show that helps Limitless out a little bit. But I really hated the fact they appear to be going the standard CBS procedural route.

I've never seen her in anything else that I can recall, but that's exactly what I thought when I was watching her.

Carpenter ruined Quarantine for me, the American remake of REC. I am stunned CBS cast her as the female lead on a network show.

She's a terrible actress, but she was one of the leads of Dexter, which was one of Showtime's most successful shows and also owned by CBS. Some CBS executives must have liked her or liked her audition for Limitless.

I knew Carpenter was on Dexter but she doesn't really fit the typical profile of romantic female lead for a network series. They must be going for an early Scully on X-Files vibe with her.

Re: Limitless (CBS) -- Season 1 Thread -- Premieres 9/22/15

I love in one scene Deb explains how she was able to pour over hours of security footage from the coffee shop, pick up the one moment where a guy paused at the counter without picking up coffee, noticed someone taking a picture from a different angle, learn that they were a regular, track them down and got their pictures from the phone.

The very next scene they need a brainstorming session to figure out how to track down the woman who picked up the coffee, and deb has a look on her face like she cracked the da Vince code when realizing the woman is probably a regular.

They also kind of gloss over the logic that let him narrow down the type of bomb used when he hadn't even seen the crime photos or anything. And while I'm at it amazing coincidence the journalist had a photo of himself chilling on the back of his car posted on online that was taken some time between when the sticker/chip was planted and the accident.

I liked the second episode quite a bit, it had a good tone and pace.

That was where it was very whacky, I gave it a pass in the end, because the show is kinda fun, and the premise is already whacky so why not.. But I do think the writers need to work a little harder...

I was let down by the second episode, they have already started turning the guy into a cartoonish buffoon. Knocking down the wall, seriously? This was a lazy, predictable episode with obvious gags.

I turned to my wife and said, "If that's where they're going with it, I'm not likely to keep watching." It's hard to do comedy. It's hard to do comedy well in a serious show. Breaking Bad did it. House did it. But there aren't many I can name off the top of my head.

Re: Limitless (CBS) -- Season 1 Thread -- Premieres 9/22/15

It was clear they want to keep the tone very light. I may not have minded if this was the seventh episode of the series but having an episode this early like it sends the wrong signals.

I'm cool with a light comedy drama with sci-fi undertones. And this is maybe a couple of steps above Scorpion...

It finally hit me what other show this reminds me of. It reminds me a bit like Numbers. I do like they are finally introducing the shit he needs to do for Morra into the mix. Now he has to play both sides.

That does seem like the vibe they are going for in Limitless. My expectations have been lowered a bit after the pilot but I guess I'll hang on as long as the formula for each episode doesn't get boring.

CBS seems to have mastered the idea of junk food drama. Easy to digest and formulaic drama mixed with a little comedy.

Watching the shows On-Demand to catch up. On the second ep, I thought it was funny how the chick starts describing the only Porsche in the garage was a 1975 911 and then shows her looking inside the front bonnet of a 356 from the 60's.

The crimes of the week have been pretty weak so far, this is not a particularly inventive writing staff. I may soon check out of Limitless, I haven't seen anything in it to indicate future greatness even if it goes serialized.

I still enjoy it. There was a solid kernel of hope that may be foreshadowing in the last episode. They hinted a few times that NZT Brian may become dangerous which could be a really interesting way to go.
