Well, this fucking sucks. A&E has left us with 2 unresolved cliffhangers in a row. I wonder if they've just decided to give up on scripted shows.

Maybe WB wanted too much. I really hope it lands somewhere else.
Plus several other A&E produced shows in the pipeline.

Re: Longmire - Season 3 Thread - Mondays on A&E

The fact that all the reports are mentioning Warner Herzog is already shopping the show around gives me some hope. Maybe A&E cut it loose to go somewhere else. Yes, they used the word "cancelled," but in terms of their network.

Wait, what? Herzog? How's he involved?

Link?!

EDIT - Dude, it's Warner Horizon. Thanks for the buzzkill.

Sounds like A&E just wants a bigger hand in their original programming. Longmire was too good for a show for them, anyway. I really hope another channel picks it up.

Warner Herzog is the bastard lovechild of Jack Warner's corpse & Werner Herzog with an assist from Klaus Kinski.

If you still want to get your Longmire fix, I recommend the books. I've only read the first one, but it was excellent. They're a little bit different than the show. I've place a hold on the second one from the library and hope to start reading it as soon as it gets released to me.

I enjoy the books quite a bit. I started reading them after the first season. Wish I could find them in audiobook form for when I'm at work.

First NERO WOLFE and now LONGMIRE.
A&E should be banish to the DuMont Network.

How long would Warner have to shop this around to get production started on time for the next season? I'm still holding out hope for TNT.

Warner Bros. is pitching the show and season 4 in the coming days/weeks. The cast is under contract until early 2015.

They are pitching it to Netflix and Amazon primarily. TNT is supposedly not interested. TNT's head of programming recently left, so that most likely nixes them as a possibility.

A&E claims the show was a money loser and that's why they canceled it.

If A&E can't make money on a great show like Longmire, they are the problem, not the show.

Well, A&E doesn't own the show. They pay a licensing fee to air it. If the Ad money they are getting isn't making them money off the fee they are paying, then they are producing and airing the show at a loss.

From what I understand, cable ad money sucks and is much less than network ad money. I don't blame WB or the makers of the show. They are producing a quality drama. This seems to be really an issue about the accounting at A&E and who there is determining they aren't making enough Ad money from this show. The story I posted said the show attracts mostly older viewers, which advertisers hate, but that's another discussion.

Then why did they even take it in to begin with?

Because A&E wanted to get into scripted shows and The Glades, which is now dead, was their first successful venture. Then came Longmire, Breakout Kings, and then Bates Motel etc.

However recently, A&E has formed their own scripted production unit called A&E studios (similar to what AMC did) and decided to cut back on ordering shows from other studios. Longmire became a casualty of it.

The American adaption of "The Returned" which is premiering next year is A&E's first production owned by them. A&E will now back all the money from DVD/BD, streaming sales. They don't get squat for Longmire.

I'm really surprised TNT would pass, but I'll take it on whatever medium I can watch it on. Just be at least a 10 episode season.

Re: Longmire - Season 3 Thread - Mondays on A&E

I'm really not keen on the show going to Netflix. I want it on a network where people can find it.

AMC really is looking like a good fit. They need something new now that "Mad Men" and "Breaking Bad" are done, they just cancelled almost all of their reality shows except "Comic Book Men," so they need content. Put "Longmire" and "Hell on Wheels" together for a western double feature.

Given prior seasons are on there, and advertising that would be done, I don't see how cable really matters in terms of "people finding it." It has an audience and I'm sure plenty have Netflix.

Yeah, I see no problem with it. As long as it continues I'm good. Besides, I can binge watch it like OITNB.

Well, guess no Longmire for me. Don't have Netflix. Will wait for it to go on DVD or Blu-ray.

Re: Longmire - Season 3 Thread - Mondays on A&E

Perhaps the CMT network is interested in getting into scripted genres. Seems like it'd be a decent fit for this show.
