Re: Orange Is the New Black (Netflix) -- Season 2 Discussion Thread (6/6/2014)
I just finished watching the season after plowing through a few episodes a day all this week. I really enjoyed it, but I think i'd put it equal to season 1 because of some of the reasons mentioned above about not really having any particular high points in the story that really griped me the way the first season did.

Just binged S1 and S2. One of my most favorite shows ever. Still can't get over Lorraine Toussaint being a bad girl after seeing her in Now and Then. She nails it.
That was Kit from A League Of Their Own on the plane
He was also the cop who takes Shane under his wing in Weeds.
The actress was in a coma after an accident She's better now and attended the Emmys.
Watched the first episode and loved it.
I wished they had ditched the opening credits. Since they had everyone's names, there was no real suspense that Piper might be at that prison for good.
There was something very Velma from Scooby-Doo about her astrology cell mate.
It took me an hour to convince my mother that wasn't Ellen Degeneres on the plane.

Holy crap! I just realized Healy is the same actor who played Steve, the angry drunk (who fucked Bullock's horse) on Deadwood. He looks completely different, but during the scene he was drunk in the bar and saying 'fuck' over and over, he began using the same voice he did on Deadwood.
Finished ep 5 just now. Wish we spent more time with Piper at the other prison, and I want more of Red's background. Weird how they dropped the plot line from last season where the voted members get to meet with Healey. Also sucks that Claudette is seemingly gone for good.
And since I only started watching the show a week ago, I have to comment on Yoga Jones being Patti Mayonnaise's voice. As I was first watching I had to pause and look it up , very recognizeable.

Just in time for the Emmy's to rule it ineligible as a comedy, they push it as a full comedy

Rolling Stone covers always crack me up.

Season 3 is dropping on June 12th and is 14 episodes long (1 more than previous seasons). Nice!
We need a Season 3 thread for this.
I know the rules for weekly shows is no new thread for the latest episode until it's the same day as broadcast. But what are the rules for creating a single "complete season" thread for a streaming show like this in which all of the season's episodes are available on the same day? Can that thread be created early or does it have to wait until the day the season drops?

Something that has bugged me for a while -- for the sake of helping discussion flow better, is it against forum rules to have individual threads for each episode?
I know when we get "season drops" I typically avoid the forum since I know people are bingeing faster than I am. If we had individual episode discussions I think we would have more/better discussion.

Maybe instead of just 1 whole season thread or 14 separate episode threads, maybe have 2 half-season threads (episode 1-7 and then episodes 8-14)? Or some other way to split it up?

I think they did a split up for House of Cards that wasn't the biggest hit.

For the first season of House of Cards I think it was split into three or four episode threads.

I'd like to see individual threads. Some people will burn through the whole season, quickly, while others will take their time. If you don't go quickly, you may as well stay out of an all encompassing thread until you're done, or there's too big a risk of spoilers.

Good point. And given that this Season 2 thread is only 4 pages long, is that due to the show not having many fans here? Or maybe just having one thread for the whole season stifles discussion because viewers aren't on the same episode at the same time.

Not to mention (even though it is the summer and slow with TV), it wouldn't really be great to drop 14 new threads on the front page of the forum.
