Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

Scanned & found some DVD titles for those who haven't gotten their free copy:

2 titles NOT released on BD:
Bad News Bears - UPC 097360886344
No Time For Sergeants - UPC 883929109951

DVD titles that were released on BD:
Wait Until Dark [via Warner Archives] - UPC 085392752720
Brewster's Millions - Walmart exclusive BD until 5/2/2017 - UPC 025192195426
Dr. Strangelove - UPC 043396061873
Strange Brew - UPC 012569519923

Went with No Time For Sergeants as my free selection.

Scanned Serenity BD--why is it saying $2 to convert to HDX?

Because that's what they charge for disc to digital?

EDIT: Unless you're talking about your free one. I think it will say that at first, and then when you go to check out it will show it as free.

Thanks, that was it!

Holy heck, that was convoluted from my phone, though. I had to "submit list," then wait for an e-mail and click through to complete my purchase for $0.

I admit I never got around to trying this process in-store (don't like WM) or via desktop, but it's darn tempting to convert a bunch of titles this way for two bucks a pop.

Can you do a $5 HD upgrade for your first freebie?

I was having a hard time getting the app to recognize any bar code.

I'm guessing the freebie is for DVD or blu.

It was more tempting when it was $1 a pop when you do 10 or more at a time.

I heard about that but never got around to trying it, partly because I don't have an operational disk drive.

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

Oh man I loved the disc to digital when it worked for me. That bluray burner was the best investment I ever made. Went through my entire bluray collection, luckily, before program became unusable to me on PC. Spent hundreds. I was addicted. And getting some movies that I didn't even put disc in for for $1 made it easy to spend and hard to stop. But, I think so worth it. I'm not addicted any longer (simply because I went through my collection and most new releases have them now), but would like to get the app on phone to work. Just for possibly a couple. I don't even know if they will work, like Superman collection, but would like the option for ones that don't come with it. The ticket with Vudu CS is there, but haven't heard anything since. She said to keep trying the app. I have and nope...

so, other than morality, what's stopping someone from googling the image of a bluray back cover and scanning the UPC on the screen? for the hell of it I just tried it twice and it recognized it and allows me to buy it for $2.

I did it the other night, but only because the Blu-ray I wanted to redeem was in the bedroom and I didn't want to wake the wife up for that.

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

How do some movies on Vudu, other services, have HD copy without a bluray release? Panic Room for instance. And why don't popular movies such as that have bluray releases in the first place?

Many movies are redone in HD for cable broadcasts or digital release, just like TV shows are broadcast in HD. As for why they aren't released on BD, well, there are many threads on this site about that.

Panic Room has been crying out for a BD release since the peak days of the format, though.

I remember when it came out first as a Superbit title, but the later three-disc set was great.

Have you seen the HD of the original The Hitcher on cable? I thought there was something wrong. Recorded twice just it case it was a bad convert. It was the worst thing I seen since VHS. It wasn't close to HD and picture boxed or whatever you call when black bars on all 4 sides. It was just terrible and such a letdown since it doesn't have an HD release or bluray release. I freaking love this movie so much...

I haven't, but I'm not surprised there are crappy encodes out there. And that's not even getting into 2.35 films cropped down to 1.78.

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

Placed 10 movies in my cart for disc to digital. Now will wait for that 50% off to come back again I actually thought I saw a flash saying for a limited time, get 50% off for converting 10. Then it was gone. I might have been dreaming

More than likely, you are not dreaming . That is because supposedly if you are a first time customer of D2D (never used the disc conversion or anything)...you will get 50% for your first order. So it might have not recognized you as a valid user just yet and gave you the message.

Anyway, this week, there are a few new sales, the only one that interested me was Ghost in the Shell anime for $4.99 (and UV Compatible). The blu-rays to this point have been meh in my opinion and I'll probably just go ahead and get the digital instead.

That's a decent price. I think I'll bite.

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

I couldn't get my Ghost in the Shell 2.0 Blu-ray to work with the PC D2D, I think it explicitly said that Blu-ray disc wasn't eligible, so I may bite on the sale price.
