Amazon Prime Instant Video - News & Updates

Here's a thread for discussing Amazon Prime Instant Video.

Anyways, Amazon just announced some new streaming agreements:

Quote:
Our Prime Instant Video team is on a roll. Today, we're announcing an agreement with Disney-ABC that adds 800 popular titles from ABC Studios, The Disney Channel, ABC Family, and Marvel. These new titles will bring the total to almost 13,000 TV shows and movies — all available for unlimited instant streaming.

The popular series Lost and Grey’s Anatomy will be ready for streaming tomorrow. Then, we’ll add other favorites including Felicity, The Disney Channel’s Phineas & Ferb, Marvel’s X-Men Evolution, and ABC Family shows like Greek and episodes from the most current season of The Secret Life of the American Teenager.

Disney-ABC joins recently announced deals with FOX, CBS, NBC-Universal, and PBS — just to name a few. We’ve added shows like Arrested Development, Firefly, The X-Files, every series of Star Trek, and Prison Break. You can watch on over 300 different devices, including our new Kindle Fire. Instant video streaming is a new benefit of Amazon Prime and is brought to you at no additional cost — Prime membership remains $79 a year.

Re: Amazon Prime Instant Video - News & Updates

If you've bought any New Release Blus or DVDs lately, you might have some VOD credit. I had $15 credit for VOD and I didn't even know it.

Check your balance by going to any VOD title page. At the bottom of the black box it says:

"Have a promotion code? Redeem a gift card or promotion code. View Balance"

Click on the View Balance link.

Or a Logitech Revue with Google TV for under $100. I bought one and for the newer, and much lower price, I get a decent amount of use out of it since I can stream videos from other online sites like Crackle or other stuff just through the web browser.

I watch Amazon Prime using a Roku. It's also great for Crunchyroll, TWiT.TV, Revision3, and other stuff that isn't available on the PS3/360. I have the $100 model which is top of the line. But if you're only 720P, they have models in the $50-$60 range. I love the Roku, it's one of my favorite toys.

Agreed! I use mine for Amazon Prime as well, plus Hulu Plus, MLB Baseball, Crackle, and (shortly) HBO GO!

I don't recall Amazon Prime ever being on sale. However, you can share a Prime subscription with 4 other people (I think it's 5 users total). Only the main account gets free video streaming. But the other accounts will all get the shipping benefits. So find some friends and family willing to pitch in $20 each for free 2-day shipping.

Re: Amazon Prime Instant Video - News & Updates

i share my account with others, but if i decide to buy an Amazon tablet, i may end up getting my own prime membership. the streaming content is probably more than worth it.

Re: Amazon Prime Instant Video - News & Updates

Amazon has a Daily Deal for their VOD. Usually on Mon-Thurs it's a $0.99 SD rental. They also run a weekend deal (Fri-Sun) for $1.99 SD and $2.99 HD rentals on a couple titles.

Usually these movies are recent releases. A couple titles from the past two weeks have been Priest, Mars Needs Moms, Paul, Super, The Adjustment Bureau, Source Code, Your Highness, King's Speech and Sucker Punch.

I wish the weekday deals had an HD discount. But I watched the SD stream of Priest a couple days ago, and it wasn't bad. I'd probably consider it DVD quality.

Anyways, here's the deal page link:

Re: Amazon Prime Instant Video - News & Updates

Forgive my question ... if my wife and I are both getting Kindle Fires, will we need two Prime accounts in order to both stream movies?

According to Amazon, you're allowed 2 streams. But the Free Instant Video is only on the primary Prime account. So you'd have to register both Kindles to the same Prime account.

Here's the Amazon help page for Prime Instant Streaming:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custom...deId=200572880

Quote:
Video limitations: If you are an active Prime member, you can watch a Prime instant video as many times as you would like; however, you may only simultaneously watch two videos from the same account.

How many videos can I watch at one time?

You can watch up to two Prime instant videos at a time per account. However, any other videos you are simultaneously streaming through Amazon Instant Video will also count towards this limit.

It's been on sale for $59 at least once iirc, Black Friday time-ish perhaps.

Re: Amazon Prime Instant Video - News & Updates

It looks like Amazon rotates content, which kinda sucks. Well, I can understand doing that, but a few of the TV shows in which I was interested came and went pretty quickly.

Netflix sort if does that too. Although wouldn't call it a rotation. More of losing rights to show stuff past certain dates.

Re: Amazon Prime Instant Video - News & Updates

Got this in an email from Amazon:

Quote:
We've just added another 2,000 movies and TV shows, including Lost, Grey's Anatomy, King of the Hill, Malcolm in the Middle, Foyle's War, and NOVA.
Also noticed they added the new Season 4 of Inspector Lewis. Right after I bought the DVDs.

Roku just put out a new $50 model. The Roku LT is 720P and Wi-Fi only. CNET gave it the Editor's Choice award. This is a good, cheap option for streaming Prime.

Roku has a number of them...they're just listed as "secret" channels, meaning you have to know a code to get them to show up.

Roku has a lot of adult content available.

NowhereMan made a free channel that streams from some popular adult tube sites. There's a link at the bottom of his site.

SugarDVD is like an adult Netflix. You sign-up for their rental-by-mail service and you get access to the streaming library. There's a couple hundred DVDs available for streaming. Plans start at $10/month.

VideoBox has a Roku channel for streaming. There's a couple free scenes so you can preview the service. They charge a monthly fee for access to the entire library. $15/month or $96/year.

BigStar is another movie streaming service. They have a couple hundred "After Dark" titles. I think it's all late-night Cinemax type stuff (softcore versions of hardcore films). That's around $10/month.

FyreTV is the latest one. It's more of a straight-up VOD service. Pay per minute, scene or movie. This seems to be the most expensive adult service.
