"peeping out the sElf - Subliminal Plastic Motives test pressing today. FYI, the album was mastered by Bob Ludwig close to 10 times originally for the compact disc. the final result being, to my ears, very harsh, tinny, & compressed. this was no fault of Bob's, as he was under direct orders to make it sound like a smiley face rock EQ.....but I've always loathed the CD version. the vinyl, however, is cut from his VERY FIRST mastering, & it is phenomenal. i am hearing this record for the first time. you guys are in for a treat!"

I would love to see Breakfast With Girls get a rerelease. I think its the better album and it sells for over $100 on vinyl now. If you like Self I'd recommend Break Out The Battle Tapes by Wired All Wrong. Its a side project between Matt Mahaffey of Self and Jeff Turzo from God Lives Underwater.

Thanks for the tip. I'll have to check it out.

Definitely want to pick the Self album up on vinyl now, especially after reading that FB post.

Yeah. It got one listen as a curiosity, and I have no desire to hear it again.

I recently picked up The Terror 2xLP.

My copy of Waxwork's Rosemary's Baby arrived yesterday. Gorgeous, as usual. Managed to snag the black/crimson haze variant.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I got a shitload of new (old) vinyl lately:

Tyrannosaurus Rex - Unicorn (1972 pressing)
Wilco - A.M. (Original rare red vinyl release)
God Help the Girl (out of print, $15, Belle and Sebastian)
Camper Van Beethoven (3rd album)
Sparks - Kimono My House
Roxy Music - Country Life (original uncensored)
Leonard Cohen - Songs from a Room
Beatles - White Album (Apple but later pressing)
Beatles - Sgt Peppers (2nd pressing Scranton, PA) - I have three different versions
Bob Dylan - Blonde on Blonde (Claudia Cardinale cover, mono)
Foxygen - We are the 21st Century… (I had the CD only)

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Another record show this past weekend, this time held at The Casbah, the local indie rock club in town. Smaller than the show a few weeks ago, but more focused. As in, a lot fewer people unloading their common titles and more dedication to independent, hard rock, and punk, typical of the bands that play The Casbah. In fact, one guy had a lot of power pop records I hadn't heard of that I would have liked to take a chance on, but at $8 and more a record it adds up. My haul consisted of:

Blondie (first lp)
Gang of Four - Solid Gold
Aerosmith - Toys in the Attic (hopefully in better shape than my current copy)
Fleetwood Mac - Tusk
Charlie Christian & Benny Goodman
Cheap Trick - At Budokan
Richard Pryor - Bicentennial N-word

Suddenly looking at my list, I realize I only bought two records of the indie/punk variety, thus rendering my first paragraph of this post mostly moot.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

While due dates have yet to be unveiled, the former will be served up on "cherry"-coloured vinyl, referencing agent Dale Cooper's (played by Kyle MacLachlan) favourite flavour of pie, and the latter will be pressed onto "coffee"-coloured vinyl, a nod to Cooper's damn fine drink of choice.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I just bought a 5x5 on the weekend. I need at least 2 more of them. Not all for records, mind you... but still. Trying to clean up my media room and get rid of all the shitty $20 shelving units I bought.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

There are plenty of shelving units that you can get that are about the same quality as IKEA. Funny headline, though.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I have a 2x4 bay unit from Ikea. They are just perfect. They seem sturdy and are somewhat aesthetically pleasing.

I have 4-5 boxes of records in the closet that won't fit.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I bought a 2x4 over the weekend. I'm sorta thinking about putting a second vintage stereo on it downstairs. Don't tell the wife.

Also picked up Mondo's new Blue Sunshine release on Monday. Crap film, cool music, cool artwork. Director was a nice guy. Signed my cover.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Yeah, I don't have as many vinyls that require those type of shelves. Right now I have one of them glossy crates that they sell at the Container Store.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I think I posted my shelves somewhere in this thread.

Here they are again anyway (they're more full than this now):

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Well, the Expedit has big thick outside boards:

I have this unit but I have it horizontal. Maybe I'll get a second one and put it upright. I have drawers in one bay I'd have to remove.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I was going to comment on the couch, too.

But yeah... where'd you get the shelving unit, Supermallet?

Also, I have that same NIN set.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I've seen the 3 x 2 at Lowes and Target. They are pretty common. I have the Expedit brand from Ikea in our house as well. They have boxes, baskets, and drawer inserts you can add-on.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

It's surprising how sturdy the are. Inferior furniture will usually wobble when presented with as much weight as records. The Expedit appear pretty solid.
