Is anyone else having the problem of the packaging starting to come undone? My "bookcovers" are starting to warp and are ungluing themselves from the plastic disc holder. I've placed a ton of heavy books on top of the thing to try and press it back together.

I decided to go with the Optimum R2 as a good balance of being able to get the disc some time ahead of the R1, and with properly subtitled extras. I've just reviewed the last 3 pages of this thread, and I don't think anyone has actually stayed on topic or mentioned the Optimum at all!

I'm sure by next week once people start getting their hands on it there will be a few comparisons between the KR and UK releases.

Yup, this happened to me overnight. My cover is like a U shape. I can use that strap to make the top or bottom flat, but it always seems to go back to the "U" within a day if I leave it by itself with only the strap over one part of the cover. I still like this set, but after seeing the transfer and now with this I'm starting to realize why it looks so good for the price it was sold for. My boxset looks like it has water damage it's so bent!? lol.

My gut feeling is telling me the UK is going to surpass the R3 in every aspect (picture quality, sub'd extra's etc...) outside of the package, and in that case I'm sure the TIN won't bend into a "U shape" like my R3 ;(

The UK R2 doesn't have DTS though (and IMHO the DTS on the R3 is terrific).

You are correct on that front, but at this point I'd be willing to trade that for a better transfer. Anyhow, I'm sure everyone has their own opinion on this one. If I can figure out how to preserve this box in it's original shape I plan on using it to hold a HD or Blu version of this when or if it ever comes out.

Nothing wrong with the R 3 transfer I can see.

My "book" isnt having problems, but ive had other discs where the clear plastic hubs come unglued-Gently pull it off and reglue-put a heavy book on top and let dry;
I keep mine stuffed upright on a shelf, between other cases, so no warp for me;
But Beaver ought to have this up soon.

Holy Sheeit! Mine is doing it too. Wasn't like that when I opened it. It's not been hot or cold in my room either. It's like whatever board is in the front and back covers are warping and pulling away from the packaging. What a pisser.

So...is the "leather" bound DVD edition worth the buy with the risk of it warping, and falling apart?

A few years ago, the Korean edition of "Name of the Rose" came in a similar book-like package, which I have. It suffered the same warpage.

add me to the list. I will probably just remove the inner package from the outer, and use superglue to sandwich 2 cut pieces of 1/8 inch thich acrylic to keep it flat.

Have you guys even seen the movie?

Ofelia's book (which this packaging is based on) is totally thrashed and dog-eared. The more worn this packaging looks, the more authentic it becomes. It still holds the discs and the insert just fine - I don't see the problem.

no, i dont watch mine. I just put them on the shelf.........

the problem is that i didnt pay for something in that condition, so i wouldnt expect it to become like that on its own. had it been like that already, and advertised like that, then it would have been my choice whether to buy it like that.

holy crap! they've come up with a way to make a perfect-looking DVD case actually mutate into something that resembles the book in the film ?! that's incredible.

sadly mine has been sitting flat on my cabinet and is suffering the same fate

I just received my LE last week and the warping has already started. It's a shame because it's a very nice set.

I thought the sound and picture quality were great. I didn't see the film in the theater, but it looked very good upconverted on my Oppo player. The DTS track is great.

I am finding that wrapping the elastic thingy vertically around the far right side has helped a lot. It's even taken out almost all of the warping that occurred prior to my doing this.

Went to watch this last night and holy crap, the thing was all warped for me too.

How did I unwarp it? Muscle. Plus, I just keep the elastic band thingy across the top part instead of the bottom now.

Mine's warped too on the front top right side. Pretty sad that this has only taken a month for such a thing to happen.

Well the Optimum disc is excellent quality. Looking forward to watching again with Del Toro's commentary soon.

If we're lucky, the US version may come out with a different version like the two commentaries on Hellboy -- always makes great listening.
