Ok, there is a setting with the TV in it's Sound menu called AVL that you can turn off; press "menu" on the remote and using the right arrow, go to Audio and then down to AVL and turn it off.

If you can post the models of the TV and DVD player, we could try to figure if there's a user-configurable option.
