Re: Borders closing 200 stores

Why do people act like Borders is the only store that does this? Mom & Pop Bookstores do this. Barnes and Noble does it as well if the book isn't on sale. That statement is getting so old.

Looks...

Re: Borders closing 200 stores

Yikes!

Had some friends I worked with at our previous local Borders, that have since then moved to another in San Francisco. Guess they'll be in the job search yet again.

Re: Borders closing 200 stores

Just a heads up for anyone in the area, San Rafael, CA Borders is closed now.

I will take a little pleasure in seeing all the freeloaders that frequented that store move 5 minutes down the...

Re: Borders closing 200 stores

Very true.

The only thing I saw that I was curious about was Dogtooth on DVD. Would be $12+ tax after the 60% off and for some reason Amazon still has that sucker at $20.95.

Re: Borders closing 200 stores

San Rafael, CA has their "Final Days" sign up. Currently at 50%-70%

Looks like they sent all their Blu-Rays to another store, either that or they got gobbled up.

Re: Borders closing 200 stores

San Rafael, CA store is at 30% Books/30% DVD's/Blu-Ray's. Paperchase items were at 50% but there was hardly anything left other than Greeting Cards.

I still have friends who work at that store and...

Re: Borders closing 200 stores

I meant B&M stores have a hard time competing with E-Tailer Prices.

As a former Operations Manager of a local Borders, there is a lot more fuss with the Payroll/hours of a normal B&M store...

Re: Borders closing 200 stores

IMO, comparing a B&M store to an pure E-Tailer is like comparing Apples to Oranges.

Also throw in that most customers at these closing stores were turning their local Borders...

Re: Borders closing 200 stores

I think that's fair to say E-Tailers like Amazon and Discount/Variety Stores like Walmart/Costco/Target were more of a threat to the company than B&N.

At the store level, minus memberships or...

Re: Borders closing 200 stores

Also, I think at the store level, the way the stores look have done a lot to hurt/help both stores.

If I had to think like a potential customer, B&N has a very clean and slick look while Borders...

Re: Borders closing 200 stores

Interesting. Thanks for posting that.

I think with Borders doing so terrible for the last couple years, it gives the impression that B&N is doing that much better. I guess not?

Lack of foot...

There goes the store I used to work at. Hopefully my friends who are still working there have started to look for work elsewhere.

I hope the only other big book store in the area (Barnes and...
