I'm sorry to hear the adaptation is not too good. I was looking forward to it, but I haven't seen it yet. I was waiting for it to show up on Netflix or Amazon. I read the book about 15 years ago...

I enjoyed the book a lot. It was long because of the documentary-like historical backgrounds of the people and places in 1890's NYC. I'm not sure how well that will translate to the movie, so it...
