haven't seen the movie, but a sequence like this could easily make the rest of the movie disappointing.

Yeah, it would have been the greatest G-Fan cover ever.

But since this is still very early in pre-production, I can't fault it too much for being vague and generic.

I would replace Gigan with Destroy All Monsters. Gigan has a lot of stock footage. Otherwise, you're spot on.

The only ones I would avoid (if you haven't seen any G movies) are Godzilla's...
